Extreme Formula has a steeper learning curve, but A TON of content. Thirty levels, all designed with unique themes and across multiple planets/biomes, and it looks sooooooo good. I defenitely recommend XF Extreme Formula, as it gives you a lot to chew through.
The Tutorial is a bit lame and overwhelming, but you will get a hang of the mechanics and the reward is great.
However, it is true that XF and Aero have a different feel to them. Aero has a lighter tone and is less of a "dry" racing game. So you can pick both up eventually. I started with XF and once I finished all challenges on Gold Rang, I will pick up Aero GPX.
In the other side, the younger game of both, Aero GPX is like the perfect spiritual brother of F-Zero X and with some changes, it rescues the best from F-Zero X, focusing in quick reactions, drifting and even combat (i would say its ok but a new balance would turn it more viable). By being the newest, it doesn't have many content like XF, but can easly overpass him by just add the promised workshop, besides, looks like its gonna have more ships than XF and if the team considers to implement multiplayer online, we are gonna have the ideal modern F-Zero.
In conclusion, if you want to play one of both, go for XF extreme formula and give Aero GPX some time, keep that Arrange edition F-Zero X stored by now
