Jagged Alliance 2 - Wildfire

Jagged Alliance 2 - Wildfire

Compatibility Windows 8 RESOLVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No need to modificate the exe with compatibilities like 16bit colors, XP...

How to do that:
1) Download wined3d.exe from http://www.nongnu.org/wined3d/
2) Don't run the program! instead, extract it's contents with 7Zip or somesuch http://www.7-zip.org/download.html
3) Copy ddraw.dll, libwine.dll and wined3d.dll from extracted $SYSWIN folder into the root folder of your JA2 installation (e.g. C:\Games\Jagged Alliance 2 Gold\)
4) Run the game. It may take a bit longer to start
5) Enjoy one of the best games ever in as high FPS as your hardware can handle

(from site:http://www.bears-pit.com/board/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/topic/20560/gonew/1.html) Thanks to us!!!!!!!

I'm having trouble with getting the game to run; in the compatibility screen for the .ini editor the option for 16bit color is greyed out, but I can't run the game without 16bit colore, and I don't know how to extract the wined3d instead of running it.

Extract this zip in the game folder https://gofile.io/?id=OGL8ZQ

You don't need 16 bit color.
When I try to run the game in windowed mode I get the message, "Jagged Alliance 2 v1.13 windowed mode requires a color depth of 16 bpp or less" and then it closes the game. I can run it in fullscreen mode, but it is unplayably laggy. Any ideas?
EDIT: I see what the problem was now, I was extracting the files, rather than copying them.

Just wanted to say thankyou. I followed the instructions here and now I can play one of my favourite games again. This thread is legendary, at least to me. Thankyou so much.

Perfect! Thx :)
Haha! Unbelievable. Magic! :trolol:

It's too fast now... Thank you a lot! :8bitheart:

NB :
Doesn't work without ddraw.dll. And to get it, I have downloaded the 1.1.38/ version (2013-06-24 19:02) and not the latest on http://mirror6.layerjet.com/nongnu/wined3d/

Hope this would help someone.

1. Go to http://www.nongnu.org/wined3d/

2. Look for:
Full directory (with older versions, patches...): http://download.savannah.nongnu.org/releases/wined3d

3. Than look for v1.1.38 / 24-Jun-2013 20:02
4. Download the wined3d.exe
5. Extract It with 7zip.
6. Copy ddraw.dll, libwine.dll and wined3d.dll from extracted $SYSDIR folder into the root folder of your JA2 installation

7. ???????
8. PROFIT

Works like a charm in win 10. Could post it as a guide on the game community thing. Been playing this game once a year for the last 20 years, I would literally die if I couldn't get it working anymore... Would have to buy a vintage PC lol...
FIX FOR 1.13 MOD TO RUN ON WINDOWS 10

I recently installed this game and the 1.13 Mod on a laptop with windows 10 and ran into the performance issues. I researched this fix for a few hours and was able to make it run as I remember. The wined3d files are included in the 1.13 patch/update. To make this game and 1.13 mod run with windows 10 you must do 4 things after you have installed the game and copied the files from your steamapps folder to a new directory folder and installed the 1.13 patch and update.

1. Delete Intro.slf file located in your Jagged Alliance 2 directory

2. Locate "Windows Compatibility Fixes" folder in your game directory C:/Jagged Alliance 2/Docs/Windows Compatibility Fixes/Windows 8 Fix.zip

3.Extract "Windows 8 Fix.zip" from that "Windows Compatibility Fixes" folder and locate the extracted files. Extracted files will be in a folder called "Windows 8 Fix" and inside will be a folder called "GameDir". Copy ddraw.dll, libwine.dll, wined3d.dll from that "GameDir" folder directly to your Jagged Alliance 2 game directory folder.

4. Set ja2.exe to compatibility mode for "WINDOWS XP (Service Pack 3)"

5. Run game via INI Editor.exe located in the game directory.

I spent way too much time trying to locate wined3d.dll, ddraw.dll and libwine.dll from an outside source just to realize they were already in the game directory from the v1.13 patch. Running the game in compatibility mode for XP service pack 3 made a huge difference for me also but that may not be the case for everyone.

I hope this helps and will keep this game alive!

I have that for unfinished business. Couldn't seem to fix it, so if anyone knows a fix for this problem, please do post here or somewhere on the net so we can find it.

Jagged Alliance 2 Gold I've modded with 1.13 Vengeance Reloaded. I had your problem with Gold before I modded the game, then after I installed the mod (Vengeance Reloaded) the error suddenly went away. Now I can play.

I'd recommend you download 1.13 Vengeance Reloaded and try again.

If your video is stuttering, apply this fix: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0c44Nf__JMI (video is German but you'll get the directions)

How the ♥♥♥♥ do I extract an exe file with 7zip??
Open Windows File Explorer and navigate to the folder where you saved the exe file, right click on the file and select 7-zip, then select Extract files. It will create a sub-directory with the name of the exe you extracted and the files will be inside.
