1.13 MOD PERFORMANCE FIX FOR WINDOWS 10 & UPDATED 1.13 BUILDS
FIX FOR 1.13 MOD TO RUN ON WINDOWS 10

I recently installed this game and the 1.13 Mod on a laptop with windows 10 and ran into the performance issues. I researched this fix for a few hours and was able to make it run as I remember when the mod came out. The necessary wined3d files are included in the 1.13 patch/update. To make this game and 1.13 mod run with windows 10 you must do 4 things after you have installed the game from steam and copied the game files from your steamapps folder to a new directory folder and installed the 1.13 patch and update.

For help with installing the 1.13 mod if you have Jagged Alliance 2 from steam please refer to-
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=259983550

1. Delete Intro.slf file located in your Jagged Alliance 2 directory

2. Locate "Windows Compatibility Fixes" folder in your game directory C:/Jagged Alliance 2/Docs/Windows Compatibility Fixes/Windows 8 Fix.zip

3.Extract "Windows 8 Fix.zip" from that "Windows Compatibility Fixes" folder and locate the extracted files. Extracted files will be in a folder called "Windows 8 Fix" and inside will be a folder called "GameDir". Copy ddraw.dll, libwine.dll, wined3d.dll from that "GameDir" folder directly to your Jagged Alliance 2 game directory folder.

4. Set ja2.exe to compatibility mode for "WINDOWS XP (Service Pack 3)"

5. Run game via INI Editor.exe located in the game directory.

I spent way too much time trying to locate wined3d.dll, ddraw.dll and libwine.dll from an outside source just to realize they were already in the game directory from the v1.13 patch. Running the game in compatibility mode for XP service pack 3 made a huge difference for me also but that may not be the case for everyone.

I hope this helps and will keep this game alive!

**UPDATE**

Also wanted to include where to get the most up to date builds of 1.13. When I initially installed most recently I used build 7609 from the following link which is where I had acquired it in the past. After running the game for many hours I ran into a few bugs and found out there are many new builds from Bear's Pit, newest builds are now up to 8548. Link to original and now out of date stable build;

**OUT OF DATE 1.13 MOD BUILD 7609**

After researching Bear's Pit I was able to locate newer builds from User DepressivesBrot and others. Initially I had a playthrough from version 7609 and ran into bugs that made the game unplayable so I updated to newer builds and was able to continue my save game to my surprise. Effectively I started a playthrough on build 7609 and then tried to directly update to the most recent build 8548 but I could not get my save game to load. So i used an .EXE for build 8403 (which for that version included the fix for the LBE bug that I was experiencing) and dropped that into my updated game directory for build 8548. I did not do a fresh install because I was worried about losing my save game, I simply used the SCI (single click installer) for build 8548 and extracted that into my game directory for 7609 thus overwriting the files. I was able to start my 7609 save games by using the 8403 EXE and then after using that for a while to play and continuing to create more save games I then was able to load those same save games with the 8548 build exe from the update. Effectively updating from build 7609 to build 8548 in a single playthrough.

**UPDATED 1.13 MOD BUILDS** (MAY 2018)
Bear's Pit user DepressivesBrot's links to newer builds and exe's -

Please read DepressivesBrot's instructions and FAQ for installing these newer builds. These builds are labeled as "developer builds" and "unstable" however with all of the bug fixes and features included in these newer builds they seem to be much better than 7609, to me at least.

Special thanks to DepressivesBrot and to all of the amazing work from the guys at Bear's Pit forum

Thanks @Ventris. With the impending demise of Windows 7 support, your fixes for JA2 1.13 on Windows 10 are most welcome. By following your Step 1, I gather that the Intro video will not run on Windows 8/10. That's too bad. I wish it could. Do all the other video clips run without issues? Thank you again for all your efforts and the link to this in the comments thread of my Guide.

Yes all of the other video clips (i.e. Deidranna continuously slapping Elliot) work just fine, however I don't believe those are technically video clips, not sure exactly. I think there is a way to make the intro video run properly using the INI editor from Bear's Pit, there is an option in the INI editor before you start the game for "Play Intro" however I had already deleted the intro and thus set that value to false for my recent playthrough.

The site for Mod Build 7609 is no longer working, although going to a "home page" link at the dead site then takes you to a German language site which says nothing about a 7609 build as the step 2 to patch the game.
Anyone have links to the current path to mod the game to 1.13 with the most current and stable patch(es)?
