Transcendence is one of the end game mechanics of the game typically of any MMORPG, not just this game but other games as well so no point complaining about it as its an international standard. Its meant to get players the highest end game gear by doing raids that are challenging enough which are commended to be done in a party.
In reality its meant to slow down player's progress for Season 4 story content. Its up to you to transcend your gear with your FAVORITE character. If you really like your character then I don't see any reason why you should hesitate doing it for your character's sake with the best gear you can give for them. The moment you complained about it then its really not meant for you. I suggest doing the other method mentioned below:
Its purely optional, you can as well go make a different character and finish that character's story line and don't do transcending rinse and repeat til you have enough characters to do multiple event dungeons for farming additional materials. You also get teamwork buff high up doing this method.
