It's by design. You either spend the what, extra $20 and buy at $80, or you have to "upgrade" at $50. I would suggest just buying the dlc's and colors as they come out as it'll be cheaper than buying the deluxe upgrade.

If it's by design (which it is), they should've just made the base game free to GBVS owners, what do they have to lose? Previous owners would've had to pay $50 to upgrade to deluxe regardless. Cygames is so anti-consumer it's sickening! :steamfacepalm:

what the first post said, if you didnt buy deluxe just wait until DLCs come out, they will also be sold individually

Literally, try to refund explaining you bought the wrong package and want to re-buy (there was a slider dedicated to that one time; not sure if it still exists).

I got the same situation 5 or so years ago and my refund was granted, despite I went very well past 2 hours. Anyway, nothing to lose from trying.

The "upgrade" is buying the Deluxe Character Pass.
The Deluxe Edition is just Base game + Deluxe Character Pass, sure buying just the Deluxe Character Pass its more expensive considering what you already paid for the Standard Edition but thats the case with any premium edition in videogames, buy once upfront and pay less in total.

This is unnecessary I think. If you look at the prices for deluxe edition you should either see it reduced in the shop or reduced when in the cart. This would indicate you're doing an upgrade. I only figured this out recently myself.
