Why this over any other fighting game?
I'm genuinely curious, because I just don't see the appeal besides the IP. I was told this was a good fighting game that didn't get it's proper chance because the previous version came out at an inopportune time.

However playing this for the past few hours, I just don't see it? It feels incredibly stiff to play for an "anime fighter". No dash canceling, no air dash, 5L 5L 5L auto combos, and... some these mechanics just make no sense.

High / Low mix seems almost non existent? Ok, so its more of a strike/throw type of game, that's fine. But then throw teching is also done by just mashing? Alright, so the basics of strike / throw kind of don't work here. So to make up for this, there's a guard break mechanic? But isn't that just strike / throw with extra steps for no reason?

Then theres the combo system. From gameplay it looked like fun, but actually playing it is... awkward? Like it feels just one step about Fantasy Strike in how simple it is. Any button goes into a 3 hit combo, that goes into a skill, which then goes into another variation of the 3 hit combo, and end with a skill again. Thats the long and short of it. People called this "deep"? Combine this with the simple inputs option and it's really obvious it's designed to not be "deep" at all.

I heard they changed a lot from the base Granblue Versus. I'm going to take a wild guess and say they made offense faster and better? If I'm right, I can tell because it feels like a game that isn't designed to be "fast" but is trying to be "fast".

So people who like this game, tell me why. It's pretty, fun to watch, but playing it feels like playing in molasses. I'll give it a little more time but, iuno. Not great atm.

I guess looking pretty and being rly rly easy to pick up can appeal to some people. I do agree tho, it is a somewhat fun game to play but i wouldnt rly play it over any other fighting game i usually play...

arcsys best looking game to date easily at least

OP is missing a lot here though based on what they've said

I believe the slower pace is one part of the appeal. Gameplay-wise, this is not an "anime fighter", it is in the same category as Street Fighter. (That's why "anime fighter" has always been a bad term, since it is using appearance to make assumptions on gameplay)

In my opinion (as someone who mainly plays so-called "anime fighters", or air dashers, such as Blazblue and Melty Blood, and has played a bit of SFV), the appeal is that it's a more grounded and slower paced game that has easier combos than Street Fighter due to being able to mash for the triple attack (at close range) instead of having to hit confirm off of one hit or do links or something.
This is the opinion of someone who is saving their $50 for Under Night In-Birth 2, though.

The only honest fighting game on the market actively being supported. All the others are cheap neutral skip kusoge trash if we are being honest.

It is a rare occurrence that can be dealt with with practice. In most other modern games neutral skips and cheap offense is core generic design to cater to noobs who have no braIn and hands. Mk1 is the most recent prime example. The game is so degenerate that defense does not matter up to the highest level because you only need to keep swinging and you will get your openings with low/overhead hard to blockable setups or you will cover your risky stuff with ambush assists. Next month we get Tekken of which I am already bored due to the braindead heat system. Look what they did to Jin alone. He was one of the most interesting and deep characters and now he is a Fisher-Price toy.
It's Arcadey fun online
Honestly just the fact that you can sit down and play it
gives it a pretty good vibe all around

Well for me, it comes down to a few reasons:
1. I think this is the best looking Arc Systems game. I like the visuals here way more so than even GG.
2. This is a game that focuses on fighting game fundamentals more so than anything else. Without overly complex combo or movesets, the focus now instead becomes the neutral game and footsie. I love this change of pace compared to most other fighters.
3. The small details. The unique things characters say to each other, the lore references. Literally every single character has unique intro and outro lines with each other, and there is no generic lines.

Well if you are like me and want to play Street Fighter, but Street Fighter doesn't give you the Street Fighter Experience, then you play Granblue, which oddly enough is a better Street Fighter than Street Fighter.

One of the most stylish and fluid fighting games out there. It has just enough depth to make it fun and there is enough variation of characters that everyone will have a character they will enjoy.

it's just fun bro

just a note that people love to ignore is that a 3 hit auto combo into EX into 3 hit auto combo is like as unoptimal as it gets. yeah obviously its super boring to do just that on every character. but if you go to the training room they literally give you an advanced combo that involves more then just masshing 5L three times against the wall, and thats just the start.

Ok so I've been playing for around 10 hours now and... its getting slightly better? I honestly can't tell. Half the time it feels ok, and the other half it feels awful.

Honestly I think half of it might be my refusal to use the simple controls. I'm making it harder on myself than the game is intending. Every guide I'm seeing is saying to just use simple controls because there's basically no downside not to. A big example is with charge inputs like Vas's charge. Why have charge inputs for technical inputs, but not for the simple input? Whats the point? Change the technical input if that's the case.

Idk man, this whole game is starting to seem really scuffed.

Use simple inputs while doing combos and use technical inputs while putting pressure in neutral. Technical inputs do more damage when not in a combo.
