Plus marketing messaging is very much treating these 2 titles as 2 separate products, and there are in fact significant gameplay differences.
I'd be pleasantly surprised if Rising ends up getting some sort of loyalty discount for existing GBVS owners but I think it's unlikely.
Yes!
"Players with GBVS save data will receive an exclusive badge when they start up GBVSR for the first time!"
no the games already cheap enough with cygames your lucky its even 50$ cygames hates lowering prices
・4 new characters, each with unique intro and outro with all other characters in the game
・A new partner system where you can pick ANY of the playable character as commentary and they'll encourage/trash talk you. That is A LOT of new voice recording to be done, and the Japanese VAs for this game are all extremely expensive
・New mechanism with Raging Strike + Raging Chain, and the Brave Point system means the overall pacing and game plan would be drastically different. With new mechanism comes with new things to watch out for, new ways you can extend combo, and new mind games to bait opponent into wasting BP, etc.
・Most characters (with a couple of exceptions) get 4 brand new ultimate version of their specials, which can be comboed into or out of, drastically changing up combo route options. Plus all characters get 3 new dash attacks as an universal mechanism, and all characters can do the new auto combo finisher (the high/low mix 3rd hit)
・Brand new lobby featuring new party game mode akin to Mario Party/Fall Guys
・A brand new act for the story mode (voice acted, and even featured a new original character)
・A new photo mode where you can pose characters with various prop and effect placement
・Of course, the much requested rollback netcode as well as crossplay
It really is practically a different game, sharing only the roster with the first title.
You are correct in that once Rising comes out, most ppl probably will ditch the original GBVS. From that perspective, I can understand why it might be disappointing to some ppl who perhaps might have bought GBVS only recently. However, gotta keep in mind that GBVS has been deeply discounted lately specifically because it's nearing the end of its lifespan.
Now for that, I would argue a discount on the legendary edition if ppl already owns the base game would make a lot of sense. In that scenario, it's an actual case of the same game just with newly added contents.
Otherwise... if they ever do decide to do a "Rising Extra Plus" as a new standalone release, I'd be ok with that provided they add just about the same amount of new content, and that new game comes out in another 3+ years from now, like they did this time.
With enough new content, a sequel is warranted (granted, only if there's enough new content, which can be subjective), but there's always the possibility of greed of course so we simply have to wait and see.
