The game won't start!!!!

I bought this game with all the DLC during the Christmas sale, but when I go to start the game it goes to a blank screen and the mouse turns into the loading symbol and then the program closes.
Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Have you tried restarting steam? I know it sounds silly, but there was apparently an update to the game that I got that didn't "kick in" until after I restarted steam today. I am able to start the game and run it no problems, but I was having trouble with the Inkgate alchemist bag quest not triggering last night. I read where some of the updates require restarting steam. So I did that this morning and then went back in and the quest worked fine.

Reinstalled and still can't get anything more than the flash of a grey window when I press "PLAY." Windows 7

I'm running it in Win 8, on my laptop, Core i5 with 12GB ram, nvidia quadro mobile card. It runs fine, very well in fact. You have verified the integrity of the local files thru steam too?

You should do the following:

Install the latest version of
Microsoft Visual Basic Redistributable
.NET framework
DirectX
Nvidia PhysX
your VGA drivers

Most of these can be found in the folder at steamapps/common/vanhelsing/installutils .

Then do a game cache verification via Steam and see if anything improves.
If not, do the following:

Fully exit Steam, including from the Windows Task bar.
Using Windows Explorer, go to the root Steam directory. For most people, this is
C:\PROGRAM FILES\STEAM
Delete the following files: "AppUpdateStats.blob" and "ClientRegistry.blob".
Restart Steam

I have a similar problem. Other games run fine, but when I run this, I can see Steam starts to do something on the web through the little steam icon in the system tray, then within a second nothing.

If I run the vanhelsing.exe (or the x64 or x86) in the steam folder directly, it gives an error of "The program can't start because XINPUT1_3.dll is missing from your computer".

I think this is a DirectX issue from looking on the web. I know that many of my games always install DirectX the first time they run, and I don't recall Van Helsing ever doing this. It just popped up the TOS and then ran the program. I am going to try installing DX and see if that helps.

Should the latest version of DirectX be installed (DirectX 11), or must one have an older version to be compatible with van helsing?

I have attempted everything suggested and more. I have deleted the entire game and redownloaded in steam. I have changed my desktop resolution to a lower setting I have updated all my systems drivers and still cannot get the game to launch. I get a quick black screen and see a game icon hourglass then the game crashes to desktop.
