The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing

The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing

Edit character name?
Started a file and mistyped my characters name. Just wondering if there's a file I can edit to change his name? I understand there's no user friendly way of doing this, but maybe someone knows of an editable data file or something.

Not a colossal amount, just annoying to restart lol. Oh well, maybe in later patches.

This is way late but for anyone else who want to do this you can use a basic hex editor to edit the .sav file of your character. each letter of your character is seperated by a set of 00's so if your character is named win that translates to 77 69 6e in hex. you will search the file for 770069006e (they separate each character with a 00). four sets before that will contain a number given the number of characters in the name. so i would look back from the start of the name i would see a 03 this value will need to be changed to the new value of characters, but this gets tricky if you change the number of characters in the name. if you lower the value after you insert your new name in hex, just delete the difference. if adding a new character you will just have to keep inserting values into the file. It is a little bit of work to do so, but i was bored and started messing around with it.

Thanks for the good lead Studly, but I did find it hard to follow.

I know this is an old post, but I found it helpful and I'm sure that down the track, others would like to know how to change character's name.

I use this hex editor -
https://mh-nexus.de/en/hxd/

You can locate the save file (.sav) from
Documents\NeocoreGames\Van Helsing\SaveGame\18195476

Opent the .sav file with the application.

Now, CTRL+F (Search) for your characters name BUT ensure that "unicode string" is checked, and search direction is All.

Everytime you find your characters name, you can edit it there ensureing a "00" or a "." is between each letter. This worked easy for me as I needed only to remove two numbers from my character.

Save it and then you're good to go. (after ofcourse, renaming the save game file to the correct characters name as well).

FYI - I have tried Find and replace feature, it gave me some trouble so up to you.

I take no responsibility for w.e happens to your save data file so make sure you back it up.
