How to make Katarina actually tank?
I've completed a story on hard as a melee character with Katarina being passive all the time with lots of auras and it wasn't really difficult. Now i've started another character to complete hardcore achievements and I wanted to see whats the ranged class is about, so I assumed that Katarina could somewhat tank mobs for me (at least for a little), but as soon as I start shooting at them, they rush to me and start eating me alive. So what's the catch? She has no aggro at all? Or the only way to make her keep the mobs on her is to increase her dps? Which is nonsense, because i'll be always having more firepower then she does.

If only they added a taunt ability.

Increase her Attack Speed% by any means available and buy the debuff and AoE Skills which are available to her. Then don't start attacking until after she has engaged multiple enemies and established threat. Treat her like a Hunter Pet from World of Warcraft, if that means anything.

You will still need to do some kiting, as she won't be able to tank all mobs equally, but she can handle a decent size group if you set her up carefully. And if you're playing a Thaumaturge, after a certain point you won't even need a tank. You'll be killing mobs too quickly.

I had a hunter when i was playing WoW, so I was trying to handle Katarina the same way, but if I dont attack mobs, they destroy her really quick. And the very first shot from me aggroes even those mobs which I didn't hit. So anyways I end up kiting the mobs around while hit and run them around, which is really boring.

If she's proving to be too fragile, make sure to purchase her equips that focus on +Body and spend all her points in Body with a few into Willpower here and there. Make sure to socket as many +Body Essences into her gear as possible, and also try to enchant for damage reduction and +Body.

She can tank decently, but it requires a bit of work and thought (and more than a little aggravation and experimentation) to make it possible.

I hardly have any gold for myself, so it all looks like really not worth any effort. Thanks for the info, though.

If you're having trouble with gold or need better gear, take your Melee character out of mothballs and enable Respawns in the Options menu, then go farm up some loot. The Storage stash allows you to transfer equipment between characters, and you can purchase stacks of potions, leave them in the Stash, then take them out with the other character and sell them for cash.

You can also use the Melee to farm Scenario mode for nice loot for both characters as well. I recommend the Oricalcum Mine Scenario as the best bang for the buck.

As far as I noticed you can't transfer stuff between normal and hardcore characters (my 2nd one is hardcore) and in general i'm not really fond of farming of whatsoever. So i keep my backup save just in case and run around with that stupid ghost giving auras and selling stuff :dwarfwork:
