Merchant stalls

(I posted this to feedback and ideas first but i think it works better on this side?)

I started a game where i have very little resources and when i had built Tavern and its associated buildings fountain and Merchant stall i noticed a problem. There was no Merchant so the building is not working. Tooltip says Merchant needs no tools, but still i couldnt find any place or building where i could train one. Is this bug or did i miss something?
And its extrtemely annoying that the stonecutter/quarry needs food to operate. In Settlers series it was nice that the wood/stone were separated from the more advance buildings/mines which needed food to operate. In that map there was no wild animals to hunt so no food there and tavern did not work because no Merchant on the stall. Very frustrating.
On top of that when i built my first guard tower to find stone i found those thief camps and they killed all my guards and then started to steal everything from my storages...How do you block thieves. I had one guard standing (The very last) and thieves just walked past him to both directions, when they came back they carried the goods with them...I just decided that this is goods lost to corruption and tried to continue...

Skilled Ranger (Magic Torch, Padded armor, combat power 15, only available if lucky on trade offers)
Removes disguise of spotted thieves
+100% combat power against thieves
Attacks hostile units anywhere

Edit: Your "Stall" is in range of a "Market Fountain"?

Yes, tavern, market stall and fountain side by side but no merchant i arriving to the stall so the tavern is not working

Never had any problem with the merchant stalls being maned, do you have any free settlers left? There is a number on the upper left for settlers that are free for work.
