Good for you.
I never said combat was completely random and my other points are still valid but you do you. I know how to play and I've played all the campaigns and at more difficult settings, not that it matters that much.
"Combat is often RNG and getting better soldiers doesn't seem worth."(unless you have wealth buff)
I have issue with the system. I rather have enemies, soldiers have specific health pool an damage, one veteran swing does 4 dmg to enemy and then another soldier can finish it off. Can expend it with healing in guard tower or other system. This would also be much better feeature to handle when it comes to difficulty too instead of "more enemies".
This is bare minimum and lackluster combat. You're fine to like it the way it is but don't go about talking about how "im wrong in everything" when there's heavy RNG in this.
"Patrolling should mean patrolling an area and not standing in one spot. Rangers are often useless cuz you have to cover large area with them."
Yes, they are often useless when enemies come through other villages into your own village and take different paths. Yes, I can train more rangers and make more guard towers but I think that's just making it more annoying than adding to the fun of the game.
I still use them but I'd rather have an ability to be able to set a smaller range they could patrol rather than them just standing about in one spot.
The game isn't hard, it's just time consuming for the sake of being time consuming.
the rest of your blurb there is your personal taste, you might be better off playing some standard RTS.
They don't take different paths, they just might come from different camps. your patroling 10 guys from one watchtower would either miss them or just be erradicated by running into more of them.
Placing 3-4 groups (depending on map size and how you put down your borders) is enough to savely stop pretty all attacks.
try actual hard settings. Especially low starting ressources, there is a timer-element to enemy camps starting their attacks.
