If you want to know how many it can use effectivly, that depends on e.g. where you place them. The workers come out of the front door, so if all fields are in the back, they can work on less until harvest time.
Maximum seems to be around 30, but just try.
Also it seems to depend if they have to go up or downhill or something like that.
But you can't do anything wrong with 20.
Edit - I see that each plot has the soil fertility and what grows best. I don't have the ideal land for the crop I want...perhaps that's explains rotting plots?
That's it. If the growth/fertility is bad approxamitly 50 % will rot.
No change of soil quality. No fertilizing, etc. (currently)
And I think it's quite easy to either look for better soil or live with some rotting.
that is because of the soil, if you have perfect green soil and short walkways a fram can easy manage about 20 fields.
