"DirectX 12 Agility could not be loaded. Update operating system". I checked DXdiag my Win 10 got DX 12_1 installed and my Nvidia 1080Ti video card is able to load DX 12. I will try to download Agility SDK to see if resolve the issue. From what I see is that this game, needs Agilty SDK and maybe DX12 ultimate capable V card.
DirectX 12 Agility support is part of Windows 10/11 itself. If you see this error you have most likely not installed any Windows updates for a long time. We added this check because we noticed that the DirectX runtime version included in older (and not longer supported) Windows 10 versions contains an error that causes the problem you noticed. The usage of DirectX 12 Agility allows us to include a DirectX 12 runtime that doesn't have this issue as part of the game itself
Since I have the same problem:
Are you aware, that
a)
... DirectX 12 generally causes problems for many people?
b)
... you are locking out all users who cannot use DirectX 12 Agility? As you said, it was added quite recently by Microsoft. That means, it is NOT available for example on Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019, which has official update support until 2029! But even with all updates installed, it won't run DirectX 12 Agility, because it will always remain a build 1809 for stability reasons. There is no way around this, as long as M$ doesn't update DirectX components on the older, but still supported builds. (Yes, poor descision from Microsoft, since it violates their own promise on support until 2029.)
Why don't you offer a choice to run the game with other APIs like D3D11 or Vulkan? Both are working very well. I in fact have tons of games running flawlessly.
** I will NOT purchase PoP or any other game that enforces D3D12 as the only option. **
Btw., I even tried to run PoP using DXVK - a D3D to Vulkan translator. It is meant for Windows Games on Linux, but works under Windows as well. But D3D12 is still problematic, with either native D3D12 or emulated D3D12-by-DXVK.
Thanks for the patch but, I run 2019 LTSC(updated 3 day ago) so, it won't work on this OS.
Yes, I agree, would be a good idea to able to run PoP in DX11.
However I run other games in DX 12(LTSC 2019) and yes was problems because of DX12 but, at least games will launch and will be playable. I have friends that have newer versions of win 10 and played titles in DX 12 but, was stuttering problems and texture glitches also nasty FPS drops, in some cases vsync not working properly. I guess is a difference from game to game and implementation methods how DX 12 will work, still, are issues with DX12.
With the newest Demo release and the new D3D12 Agility requiredment, I got prompted to upgrade to a newer WIndows release, despite M$'s claim to support Windows 10 Ent. LTSC 2019 until 2029 (FULL support, not just security fixes). So the next step taken was to update my steam-free experimental copy with the new, official Demo files and voila, the game is starting again! No error message at startup any more, no "please update windows" and no "Agility required". It sill crashes after starting a new map, but this clearly indicates a possible solution.
NOW, THE ONLY THING NECCESSARY TO ENABLE ALL PEOPLE TO RUN THE GAME, MOST LIKELY EVEN ON LINUX, WOULD BE TO FIX THE CRASHES WHEN USING DXVK. EITHER BY CHANGES IN THE GAME AND TESTING WITH DXVK OR BY SUPPORTING THE DXVK DEVELOPMENT TEAM TO GET THE D3D12-TO-VULKAN TRANSLATION TO WORK FLAWLESSLY - D3D12-TO-VULKAN IS STILL VERY YOUNG AND EXPERIMENTAL AFTER ALL.
Pls., PoP DEVELOPERS, pick up your chance fixing two problems (D3D12 issues and Linux compatibility) in one, relatively easy move!
