Best class for beginner (solo questing) :)
Hi everyone !

I'm thinking about making a new character on the game :
- with a two handed melee weapon
- being resistant but causing enough damage at the same time :)
I want to do the quests without any problem, while having a fun gameplay !

According to you, would there be a good class / build for my case ? :)

Have a good day !! :)

There are no two handed melee weapons.

If you're just starting out, I'd recommend making a character and picking a class and trying out the weapons it starts with by playing through the tutorial. Then, delete the character and try a new class that has 2 different weapon types.

Rinse and repeat till you've tried all the weapon types before committing to a character that starts with the weapons you feel you'll like playing with the most.

You'll also have the opportunity to try out all 3 factions at least through their initial cut scenes this way.

In the end, any single character can unlock all of the weapon types but it is nice to be able to start out with what you think you'll like the most. If you end up deciding differently later, you can always work on the other weapons while still having your original skilled up weapon types to fall back on.

You're right : the best way to not make mistake is to try each character :)

At the stage where you select a class, you have the opportunity to review each of the options. If memory serves (I'm 67 years old, so take that with a grain of salt), pistol/chaos was what the game judged easiest.

It was indeed easiest. because it contains all the abilities needed to solo well, and very easy for a new player to obtain all of them. If you've played other MMOs, it basically combines tanking, dps, and a heal and all the abilities you need to solo well.

The main story line often requires you to do content that requires a mix of tanking, dps, and healing. Probably there are other builds that do that as well.

If you don't think that you'll ever want to be a dedicated healer, avoid the healing weapons at first (assault rifle, blood, and fist). Leveling up their passives includes substituting Heal Rating instead of Attack Rating. It all washes out later when you've learned them all. I'm a big fan of AR and blood because of their range, but if you're soloing, one hit to a mob and they are within melee range of you. And probably doesn't make a bit of difference when soloing, since then you need their healing abilities as well.

Whereas the healing I get from pistol has been sufficient, and has no heal rating in its passives. But I have obtained Heal Rating from AR and blood before, so I don't know.

i.e. whatever you choose, don't specialize at first, unless you know what you are doing. SWL/TSW broke from the usual MMO format in that regard.

Thank you veryyy much for having taken the time to answer with so many details !

Ok perfect ! It's better to concentrate on that class then :)
I want to quest easily, focusing on the story ahah

I screenshot all these tips to use them later ! Thanks again :) I wish you very good holidays!

SWL makes you choose weapons in character creation. It was TSW that let you try everything in-game before leaving your faction hub's training room.

You are very welcome!

I started playing TSW with a hybrid build (Assault Rifle/Blade) with two other players. One of whom chose dedicated dps, the other healing.

My hybrid build breezed through the solo content that required combat and spent a lot of time waiting on the others to catch up.

However, TSW's end game requires that you specialize, which took me a lot of time to do .

I suspect that SWL's end game also requires it, but I have no interest in raiding anymore. If you think you might want to, listen to someone else's advice instead of mine.

Oh I see ! Thanks for the tips ! SWL and TSW don't exactly could work differently then :)
But I'm very far from the end game right now, so that's ok !
It's a great build you chose ! There is also the "shotgun/hammer" build that seems great :)

Yep, both SWL and TSW are similar with respect to a hybrid build to make it easier to get through the solo content, then specializing at end game.

There are 3 talismans that can make your soloing career easier, but probably need to be replaced for end game group content. Prices for them in the Auction House are unusually high now, but before the Winter Solstice event, prices for them had about a floor of 5000 MoF because these items are obtained by opening up Dark Agartha catches, which subscribers get 1 one free cache key every day, if they log in to claim them.

The finger talisman is Ring of the Hollow Tree and the luck talisman is Anima-Infused Keepsake, the effects of which are triggered by skills that you need to have to be able to solo well any way.

I've generally found that some passive skills will trigger them. There are also some weapons that will give you the ability to use some passives whether or not you've learned them or slotted them.

The head talisman from the Dark Agartha cache is also useful, Ashes of Fates Chosen. It's triggered by simply hitting the same mob 3 times in a row.

I would start Punisher and play shotgun/hammer or hammer/shotgun which is a good beginer combo for a tank, that can do good dps while they're pretty much the same with just different basic skill use.

Hammer/Shotgun
Difficulty - Moderate to Hard
Primary basic: Smash (1, 1)
Primary single target: Rocket Pod (3, 1) or Raging Shot (1, 5)
Primary multi-target: Razor Shards (1, 2)
Utility: Reinforce Shells (2, 1)
Elite: Full Salvo (1, 5)
Passive: Forged in Fire (0, 0)
Passive: Unbridled Wrath (4, 1)
Passive: No Pain, No Gain (2, 1) or Rock Hard (2, 4)
Passive: Combat Reload (5, 3)
Passive: Munitions Expert (4, 4)
Primary: Pneumatic Maul (requires high crit chance)
Secondary: Ifritian Despoiler (requires high crit chance)

All classes are viable for solo content. Note: You aren't locked to those classes and can eventually unlock every skill in the game with in-game currency.

hi and thanks for the tips ! shotgun/hammer seems to be a very good build (very badass ahah) It's tanky and does damage at the same time :)
I should try that one !! :) Thanks a lot!!
