subscribers get one of each key per day. its not something to lose sleep over :)
if you are free to play just ignore it. the chest usually contains a little distillate boost item and a distillate "change" item to more or less target a specific upgrading ingredient for your gear. and some anima for your expenses.
it helps progress a little faster, but you will be fine with the normal rewards if you just want to play trough the game and dont care about the endgame as of now.
The change that removed dungeon keys made it so that, instead of only getting to open a few dungeon chests per day based on the keys you got or bought, you can open as many of them as you have time to run activities for.
Before the change, I believe the patron sub gave extra keys every day. They had to retain a similar benefit for their subscribers so when they removed regular keys with the update they added the bonus patron chest to activities and allowed patrons to open one for each activity type per day.
As was mentioned by Main, the patron chests really just add a few distillate options to the game but they do also contain rare vanity items which are really the only things in the entire game you would need to spend actual money to attain because they're only attainable by patron subscribers.
However, since they're really just vanity items, you can think of it as just an added perk for patrons on top of the other things they get that are mostly just grind reducers.
In short, patron is worth it for those willing to pay but you don't actually miss out on much of anything as a free player. You just have to grind a bit more and you can't get a few vanity items.
