If you want a more legitimate experience, avoid the classes with assault rifles. Their leech/sustain abilities eliminate the last bit of danger in an already very easy game (combat-wise).
If you think you might eventually change your mind and want to play endgame group content, tanks using hammers and chaos magic are in highest demand, and they're not really much slower to play solo due to a game mechanic that's introduced around level 10-15. There isn't a starting class with those 2 weapons, but you can add a 3rd weapon to your starting class very quickly. 4th weapon onward rapidly escalates in expense.
Ignore all the above.. I thought I was posting in a Guild Wars 2 forum!. like duh!!!!
So assault rifle I do highly recommend - but it is much harder to use than hammer or shotgun (those 2 u can use without care - they will never ever hurt u, only benefit u). But I don't recommend starting with assault rifle because neither blood (Warlock) or fists (mercenary) seem as good for me as 2 weapons I mentioned before. Besides bloos and fists from what I understand work best as main weapon - it's the same as AR.
So what I would do if I ever start from 0 (actualy I did yesterday but I doubt I will stick with this new character for long)?
I would start Punisher and play shotgun/hammer or hammer/shotgun (both work good as main weapons and both work good as secondary weapons, shotgun may even work great at it). Then if I get a litle bored with it I would unlock AR. Which would give me option for AR/shotgun or AR/hammer - which both work great (first give more utility - shell salvage with passive give u energy for both weapons which is amazing, second one give more defense because there is a skill i forgot name of but with passive it makes u unkillable for like 8 seconds or so and cooldown is 20 if I remember correctly). And thats about it. 3 weapons that work great with each other. Only other I would unlock maybe is pistold but that just to unlock gunslinger clothes :P
