Secret World Legends

Alternative Secret World stuff
So I am a huge fan of both The Secret World and Secret World Legends and have been playing for years. The narrative is great and the tone is just what I was looking for, but this game has never in my years of playing been able to shake that feeling that it wasn't *meant* to be an MMO. Playing with others is fun, yes, but SW (both) falls flat in the most important aspect of an MMO: combat. Even with the revisions SWL gave to TSW's combat, it is still unbelievably boring. This gets me thinking. What other types of games could the lore of The Secret World thrive in? My brain defaults to a Souls-like game. True the marketplace is inundated with that stuff, but I think the overall tone lends itself well to that approach. Thoughts?

Walking simulators coupled with some investigation sprinkled on top (for lore building) are doing well with the franchise in the Moons of Madness and previously with The Park. MoM blows The Park out of the water with play-time though both are gorgeous.

Alan Wake.

The Black Watchmen is (slightly) related to the TSW-universe, but is very different in gameplay. It's not an action/rpg game but it is kind of similar like those investigation missions. It'very unique and you will get to see some strange things (or get sidetracked and see more, much stranger things.)

Maybe other Lovecraftian games like Sinking City and Call of Cthulhu, but havn't played those myself yet.

Yes, the Alice & Smith games that I've seen are basically SWL investigation missions with a different bow. The Black Watchmen and NITE Team 4 are set in the SW universe but with slightly different outcomes to certain events (no spoilers!). Both of those game's social media profiles engaged in the recent Moons of Madness ARG ( http://www.cyranostory.com/ ) so they're worth a look at for some lore expansion if you're more in to that aspect of the game.

Sounds good. I was more asking what other game types you think TSW would function better in, rather than an MMO but I will certainly never turn down more opportunities to delve into the lore! Thanks!
