Login Problems
It appears there may be an issue logging into SWL. It says to fix my connection/firewall. Problem is, I was just playing 5 minutes ago, then crash to desktop and now unable to log into the game.

The servers are down. Read the announcements.

Nevermind....I should have seen it on screen load...

How long it takes before it's repaired ?

Hoping to hear some kind of announcement on ETA for a potential fix, though.

just installed the game and after startup is telling me to unblock it in my firewall, so why would this game be any different than any other game, never had a game as me to specifically set it up in firewall like that, are they trying to spy or upload something they shouldnt ? I didnt have to do this to have steam running or any other game !

Note : the original post was for an issue on Jan 17, 2018, which has nothing to do with the log-in failures on Steam this May 20, 2018.

  • Clear your Steam download cache

  • Make sure your Firewall is set to allow Steam and SWL through

What I did first :
  • added the two SWL clients (.exe) in the Firewall exceptions ;
  • did Repair broken data (launcher option)
The client auto-closed silently when I clicked Start (following the Repair option).
Re-launched launcher.
A patch (348 MB) started to download.
RESULT : nope, could still not log-in.

  • Then I flushed the Steam download cache (Steam Settings > Downloads…).
(Steam will close and require to relog)
RESULT: as I post this, it still fails to authenticate on Steam again.

What did work :

I read on the forums of people who got in by cancelling the authentication (when character(s) should load) and re-trying many times.

It took about 15 attempts, waiting about 5 seconds each.

Somebody at Funcom broke something. I wish they'd just admit it. I don't think this is Steam's fault.

This actually did work. I wish Funcom would explain why because it's pretty bizarre.

+1 here, cancelling and retrying the authentication works (after about 10 attempts)

Denny Crane here. I am having the same problem as you all. My office IT guy assured me it was on Funcom's end, not Steam.
FormlessBlackVoid May 21, 2018 @ 10:21pm
For the folks that think Funcom broke something: The problem started at 3am Eastern time. No one was in the office and they don't push updates when they're not in the office.

What we know: Steam is failing the handshake from Steam's server to Funcom's server. Steam isn't sending any data to Funcom's auth server when this error is occuring so you get a general error message and the common causes for time-outs.

Yes, it's frustrating. This is affecting my account too. Clearing the cache worked the first time and subsequent attempts have required spamming PLAY and Cancel until it goes through. Best of luck to you all until this gets sorted out.
