Why does this game run like garbage?
Trying to be nice but, for real.

System Specs:
AMD FX 8320 (8core) 3.50 GHZ
16GB RAM
64 bit Window 10
NVIDIA GTX 1070 8GB VRAM

Cutscenes i get 100+ fps
Playing the game in tutorial area 40-60 fps
Then i get to the "City" or "Town" area, and when i stand still i get 72 fps, but as soon as i start to move i get 21-26, sometime 30 fps.... ON LOW SETTINGS!

I can play 95% of my games on Ultra settings, far more graphically intensive games like skyrim, fallout, and ark.

What am i missing? I tried Direct X 9 and 11, both do the same thing.

I have NVIDIA control panel set to performance, and high priority for TSW in task manager.

Any advice would help.

I have a pretty decent system, 970s (SLI) and had framerate issues in SWL until I got to Kingsmouth (the first mission zone) - after that things just cleared up on their own. I'd recommend being patient. And if you can get the "full installation" setting to work I think that *might* make things a little quicker.

The game has a engine from 2013 and its not optimise past that date as well as the core game play,so its normal for the low FPS o and dont expect improvements in this area.:steamsad:

Standard fixes for slowdowns in hub areas: Make sure you're running the full client instead of minimum, try using FXAA instead of TXAA, use the DX9 version, or (and this was what stopped the stuttering in Agartha for my rig with a similar CPU/GPU to your own) move the game to an SSD.

The first and last tips there are what I'd try first because this game has some really weird caching issues and that can tank the FPS in hubs when the game is fetching everything the other players are wearing. You should see how badly Gal In A Waistcoat's rig chokes up in those places with her little 5600rpm hard drive...

Try increasing virtual ram, mine was set the well below what it should and wow did it make a difference!

Try these settings

it's in german, but the order should be the same, there is pretty much no visual difference between 3 and 4, but it runs better, if u want it to run even better, just set everything to 2, I had pretty stable 60fps with my old overclocked 8350.

I'm also encountering stutters etc. on my 4.9ghz 8600k, the game itself runs like a piece of ♥♥♥♥ even on high end hardware. also try disabling all cores except for 2 unused onces since the game itself doesn't really profit if it runs on more than 2 cores, it also sucks on spreading the load between multiple cores, if more than 2 cores are available for it, which might cause even more stuttering

I just wish it'd stop crashing on switching characters/loading instances.

never experienced any crashes

Strange. It's not just me though. I've seen plenty of people talk about cradhing.

How well the game runs depends almost completely (assuming your hardware is decent) upon the speed of your internet connection. My previous internet was 1 Mbps and the game lagged, crashed and became a slide show during event boss fights. Then optic fibre cable came to my town and now it's 175Mbps and all the above problems are gone.

Maybe it's your hard drive. Replaced mine with 1 tb from 500gb and every game I have runs better.

If you're feeling brave, there's a RAMdisk workaround to improve performance which has been outlined in the official forums.
