Jokes aside: The upgrading system is twofold. On the one hand you can level them up by feeding them trash (+100 for notsimilar weapon/talis depending if it is a talis or weapon, +250 for similar green, +400 or more from essences and I think it was +1000 for a similar blue).
Every color of gear has a max level (green 20, blue 25, purple 30 and so on) the moment you reach max level of one quality level you gotta fuse it with another max level item of the same kind to the higher quality. Turning for example your level 20 blood focus into a level one blue focus (which is stronger...not weaker) giving you another 25 level to grind before you gotta prepare another maxed out blue for fusioning.
Another thing is that this game gives one free maxed green weapon and one free maxed talisman the first time you reach 20 on a weapon or talis. These are not for equipment purpose but to be used as fusion fodder.
The fusion window is in the tab beside the upgrade window.
Also a small excourse about other things: "Pips" means these little dots below gear. 3 is the max. Talismans flatout get better stats (compared to similar level/quality lower pip stuff). Weapons just get their prefixed stronger (for example 10% movement speed at one pip, 20% at 3 pip). "Dungeon"abilities like your blood focus (there are a few other ways to get stuff with additional abilities) is on top of all that. Meaning the max gear is 3 pip dungeon stuff that you just have to level.
But this shouldn't be necessary. From what I remember, the first time you get equipment to level 20, you get a throwaway item to teach you the mechanics of fusing. You're still free to upgrade the original item you got to level 20 and you're not forced to upgrade the throwaway item they give you.
My problem is: I put my level 17 Blue ("superior") head talisman into the big slot to the top left of the Upgrade window, then 1, 2, 3 or 4 green trash heads into the small slots below that, but the "Do It Now!" button (forgot the real name of it) never lights up, and clicking it fails to do anything, including, but not limited to, upgrading the tali.
If I quit the game and log back in, it will let me upgrade the same item using 1 or 2 trashy greens at a time, but never all 3 or 4 that I have clogging up my inventory. The same thing happens with all other talis, and weapons too. So this bug is filling up my inventory and preventing me from progressing because I'm not ging to let a game bug force me into purchasing more bag slots.
It's simply flat-out broken and there are no GMs in the game any more [q.q], and "customer support" (lolollllllllll *snort*) consists of a list of FAQs, none of which even imagines that anything in the game could possibly be *gasp* broken but instead posits that were all dumbasses and just need our widdy hands held. >.< It's infuriating. But y'all already knew that.
Does anybody know of any way to fix this that does not involve logging out and back in every 2 or 3 quests? Thanks.
I've never had the issue myself even right now so it sounds like some corruption issue may be happening.
Remember to verify files in the launcher, NOT in the Steam library. It has been a long time since I have played .... but I think in the launcher it is called "Repair Broken Data."
If Funcom hasn't kept the version of SWL on Steam up-to-date, when you verify the files using the function in the Steam library, Steam will download the older version of the game (erasing all the updates), and, when you launch it, the launcher will then dowload all over again everything that has been added to the game since Steam's version was last updated.
I made the mistake of verifying SWL files through the Steam library once to try to fix something. I never made that mistake again because I had a lot of time to think about the error while waiting several hours to be able to play SWL again. I had a very slow internet connection speed back then.
Sadly, running the launcher's repair function did not fix the issue despite taking ~6-7 minutes to complete. I still can't improve my gear, which means the crafting materials (green item drops) are still clogging up my inventory AND I can't advance in the game since I can't improve my gear to match the increasing difficulty of the quests/mobs. I made it to Blue Mountain, but it looks like that's as far as I can go.
Funcom still has not responded to my email help ticket, nor has any in-game GM responded to my petition, so I guess I'm through playing Secret World Legends. Thanks for trying to help.
