Wanna choose your class? Well, **** you! =)
I wanted to give SWL a try. Really. I thought - hey, what can go wrong? They wouldn't f this up horribly, right? I mean, they already have a decent game, all they'll do is add a few "premium" things here and there, right?

Boy, was I wrong.

This game lets you choose out of 9 classes. That is 9 pairs of weapons. 9. That is, nine.
Let me put it the other way.
If your desired pair of weapons is not represented by one of these 9, you are ♥♥♥♥♥♥ royally. Because:
a) tutorial FORCES you to put points into the weapon you don't want
b) you unlock other weapons with real money

To be honest, that was enough for me to uninstall this game. If I can't play the character I want from the start, I don't want to play at all. If you force players to choose one of the predefined classes, at least have the decency to include every pair.

Funcom. Keeps cutting FUN out of your games. Thank you. You're the best. :dip:

Well your missing out on a great experience. The game is not TSW amymore..You can aquire other weapons through the store I believe if thats what you want. They have to have some way to make money on the game. 9 classes is a lot more than most MMOs..

The way combat works in the game is not the same anymore anyway. Those weapon synenergies don't exist any more. Its not even close to the same thing. If you picked the same pair as you had in TSW you would probalby not find anything that worked the same. You should have played further into the game. You would have seen this.

Yeah, except this game has what, 36 classes and locks 27 of them behind a paywall. That's just stupid.

Not stupid. You want them to give you everything for free. Its a business. Not a charity. The game is great. The combat system is totally different. What you knew about TSW combat does not exist anymore. SO what you think should be the pair you pick and how it applies and works is not the case. The skills sytems is totally revamped. The combat is completelly different with completelly different skills. Each weapon has its own mechanic. For example with pistols you have to match up cylinders ( colors on two rotating 6 shot cylinders that move according to which skill you use ) to get more damage on your shots. You should have given it a chance. Personally to me. Its much better. The crafting system is gone replaced by an upgrade system that is much better also.

They're not permenant classes OP.

You can choose shotgun and pistol class, then later decide you want shotgun and sword, or elementalism and rifle.

I didn't know the other weapons were money locked, since I'm from the original.
Do you have a screenshot for this or any news? Since I'm writing a piece about it, it would be useful.

Do enough dailies, you can unlock weapons for free.

If you have TSW, you have access to all 9. Link your account.

I have them all unlocked too, but I heard for others who don't, that you do the daily challenges to unlock additional weapons. Since challenges gives Marks of Favor, that leads me to believe an even faster way of unlocking them would be to sell stuff at AH for Marks.

The AH isn't open, yet, AFAIK.

I did and they are locked.

I'm not wasting time in this game if it doesn't let me play the class I want from the start.

Again, I know they are not permanent, but you are forced to waste your points AND have to spend money to unlock more.
I already uninstalled the game, so I can't give you a screenshot, but you can see it here, for example:

The mechanic for shotguns for example has different ammo you load. SIngle target, AOE, Healing..and 1 other that I can't remember.

It was the first two days at headstart. No idea what is going on. People were selling stuff at 5-7,000 marks, no idea if that's a reasonable amount or not. No idea how much a weapon unlock would cost either.

You need to spend at least one point in them.

Read above. You don't have to if you played TSW.

You never stop getting points. If you played TSW for any amount of time, you would know this, it's very common knowledge.

The problem with you I fear is you assumed it was the same game and did not give yourself a chance to see how the game worked.

I don't have a problem with the game being streamlined for the new players. I don't mind having the tutorial. I don't mind the crates and keys or whatever F2P bs they wanna add - it's not my problem.
My only problem is that they lock classes from you, forcing you to play the character you don't want.
Sure, the old Secret World also forced you to use shotgun for the tutorial. But after that you got to pick any weapon combinations you want.
This game just went out of its way to ruin it.

There is seriously only one game in my memory that had worse F2P model at launch. It's SWTOR. You actually had to pay to use chat in that game. That was ridiculous.
But locking away classes comes very close.
