Character customization in TSWL
Does anyone happen to know what the character customization will be like for TSWL? I wasn't exactly blown away by TSW, it was hugely lacking in variety, unless you can loads of alternative stuff from the cash store (I didn't get a chance to play before they announced the relaunch).

From the announcements (IIRC the summary from the streams):

Body: "One shape fits all" with tallness slider will stay

Faces - more base models, more customization.

And clothes... ...you can buy dozens of outfits and single pieces in several shops in-game, more on the FC shop, and many, many more as rewards for progress - and special outfits for events. And Membership goodies.I also remember "Silly clothing will stay, its the flavour of the game." from somewhere in one of the blurbs.

[same answer as in the "bought on Steam"-thread]

There will be more variety of faces and hairstyles, with "improved visuals." Body types won't be changing much. If you never got much further than the character creator, be aware there's far more clothing items purchasable in London with in-game currency, as well as at the auction house, and one of the shops in London has a different selection depending on which day of the week you check it. You'll also be able to exchange in-game currency for real money currency and can potentially acquire the cash shop items that way.

Thanks for info.

Keep in mind that the reason for the lack of different body types is to ensure we have as much variety in clothing as we do. Otherwise, they'd have to design different shapes and sizes of each type of clothing, or you'd end up with some body types stretching the textures of certain outfits (if changed to a system that fit and scaled to the body model, which this always ends up happening).

Honestly, I never had a problem with The Secert World's customization.

Are the models dated? Yeah. Is there a severe lack of sliders on character customization? Yep.

But because of it's contemporary setting it kind of makes me forgive it.

So tired of wearing big metal fantasy armor and simply wearing a hoody is interesting enough to me.

Hopefully they'll stream character customization at some point. It would be nice to have more options. And longer hair on female toons- the one female npc in Ealdwic is an exanple -would be boss.

I've always been impressed with the customization when it comes to clothing. I loved the fact that you can mix and match outfits.

Character customization, on the other hand, is pretty terrible. Most of the faces looked dreadful and I found it near impossible to get a character to look the way I want them to. I always hated the slider system too. I'm hoping SWL's character customization is better made but I'm not all that hopeful.

Conan Exiles had a better character creation system (although still used the darn sliders), so maybe there is still hope!

Tilty specifically stated that they worked hard to make all the default faces "prettier" than they were, so expect it to be better (maybe not perfect, though).

Also mentioned you can create specifically UNattractive characters. Which, hey, am all for more variations

And if you still don't like the faces i'm sure there is a cool looking mask or paper bag to put on your character.

Problem was never customization per se, it was the godawful character face models.

There might be a F2P catch now, though...

We do get more options but when we want to change it at some point we will have to open our (virtual) wallet. Since it will be F2P i doubt the hairdresser is as cheap as it is now, for example.

Dated models never bother me, as I'm more impressed by the animations, body language, and general movements you see in all the mission cutscenes. They're actually quite impressive at times, just gotta pay attention to the whole scene and not the mostly expressionless faces.
