TSW Massive Edition to TSWL confusion.

Hi,
I've just done some reading about all this Legends stuff but I'm still a little confused (Mental illness doesn't exactly help with concentration).

Can you guys try and explain to me in like lamen terms for a few things please. Especially if you're in the same boat.
I remember buying this game way, way back and grabbed the Massive Edition which I think was all if not most of the extra content. I played it for a while but not as much as some other players, due to numerous reasons. A big one being that I just got lost in other games that were coming out and each time I thought about playing this one a new shiny thing would pop up and distract me.

My questions that I now have are:

What happens now if I want to resume playing the game? Do I wait until the time of TSWL release? (It's still The Secret World in my Library)

Was buying the game and the Massive Edition a mistake? Are there any benefits to players in the new game that owned this content?

If I can't remember my account details is the recovery process standard or is there something special I need to do because of the transition of the games?

Will there be a change in storage size for the game?

What happens to my existing character(s)? (Probably not much on them but I'm curious about what would happen to them).

Thank you for reading, I think that's the main questions bothering me.

If I understand correctly Secret World: Legends will be a separate game, meaning that you will still be able to play the old one (Massive Edition). However, the older version won't receive any further updates and naturally there will be less players playing the game as most ppl will be on TSWL.
I think people who bought the game + content will be able to play the same stuff on TSWL and will have access to the custom items that they obtained as well. Don't know more though.

Legends is an entirely new game. Whether or not owners of TSW get anything remains to be seen.

Also, we don't know when they'll shut down TSW for good. If you only care for solo content (like I do -- I don't have the people, gear and know-how for stuff like dungeons), playing TSW does have the advantage that it's free; Legends will be F2P so you'll have to throw money at it to get any kind of real progress. On the downside, if they shut down TSW soon you might end up getting cut off.

The June 26th launch on Funcoms servers is per the q1 financials Funcom published to investors, with the July 31st Steam launch mentioned, rationale being the launch of FF, ESO, and BDOs expansions occurring at the time of the originally planned SWL Steam launch.

We don't know exactly what perks Grandmasters (lifetime persists, but what about Aurums for Patron status, etc), former subscribers, or former B2P players get.

The only thing known beyond lifetime persisting into SWL is:

• A TSW account can be linked to an SWL, allowing a snap shot of Real Money cosmetics (cosmetics you paid $$bills for from the item store) to be redeemable in SWL. RNG holiday bag cosmetics should port, but the full extent of what will be in at launch and what might be ported later is not known. Collectors Edition Gadgets, Outfits, etc are unknown at this time, same with Chads Chipmunk Outfit from The Park. Woodcutters Wrath/Sorrow/Regret will not port, which was said by Romain Amiel in the interview with Beyond the Veil Podcast.
  
• Some achievement cosmetics will be ported. Exactly which, unknown. Some might get a change, but you'll keep the Legacy Version. If the achievement cosmetic is the same: you have to get it again (90% certainity, not 100% sure of this. Don't quote me)
  
• Previous owners of TSW who linked account to SWL will also get access to all 9 weapon pages. Pure f2p players get two pages for free, the other 7 unlockable through real money or in game currency
  
• TSW players can reserve one nickname/character name for SWL at http://register.thesecretworld.com However, you have to have that nickname taken by you in The Secret World as a character name in order to reserve it for use in Secret World Legend.

Also ignore Kargor, he is heavily biased but has literally no more information than the rest of us and it's rather annoying.

SWL is a separate game with a separate launcher. If you want to resume playing TSW you can still download that from your account (Steam or FC) and resume playing today.

Please see Dongly's post above. No one can answer whether buying TSW was a waste of money or not. I don't think it is personally, I bought like three or four copies to give to friends and bought GM before they permanently got rid of it and I regret absolutely none of it. Maybe your financial situation is different, then you might have a different viewpoint about it.

For storage size requirement I take it you mean installation space on the hard drive? I haven't heard anything about that. I imagine it will be about the same as TSW, but that's just a guess.

Account recovery should be the same process regardless since it's the samericans tech support team and the same account schema.

Existing characters on TSW have had a name wipe if you didn't reserve the name but other than that they are still 100% intact. You can still play it on TSW even after SWL drops, and even after you link your stuff between TSW and SWL.

Thank you guys for the feedback, it's helping me to understand a little bit better as I read up on this.

@Asasin cheers for that quote as that gave some indication as to what happens. I don't think I ever brought any premium cosmetics separetly as I just brought the massive edition and all it's content out right.

I'm going to try logging in now for the first time in years to see if my character is alive.

Okay I managed to log onto the site and I see I have 3 things under your products. Issues 5-7, shouldn't 1-4 also be there?
Sorry if it sounds confusing but I genuinely did stop playing probably around 2014/2015 due to situations and can't remember much. Currently downloading 5.35gb worth of patches which for some reason is goinge slow despite good internet O.o

Because of my inactivity I also can't remember what the massive edition had haha. Any fellow players help a brother out? I know it had the expansions which come as issues and I remember using boosts, special gear, there was cosmetics but can't recall what. Is that the gist of it?

Now I really am confused O.o My hard drive went from 71gb to 59gb. The launcher is still patching and went beyond the 5.35gb as stated but just this second returned a fatal error saying not all resources were downloaded correctly. Restarting the update manager as instructed. Guess I should learn to not go inactive.

EDIT: Restarting the manager worked and now says it's up to date, hard drive still sits at 59gb. Where on earth did all the extra data come from if the updater originally said 5.35gb O.o

Managed to get in game, don't see any cosmetics I thought I had or such like. Only got what looks to be standard clothing, biker jacket, jeans, hiking boost and a tank top O.o

pretty sure 1-4 got included with the base game when they went b2p.

iirc, massive adds 5-7 as well as a bunch of blue starter gears and other consumable junk that prolly won't transfer.

I think it might include temple cat (which should transfer to SWL) and screaming demon ring (which prolly won't)? but i'm not 100% sure.

google-fu reveals some articles that mention a plague doctor oufit being part of it, but i don't recall that being true when i got it. (those are from 2013 - may have been a limited time bonus to go with halloween)

(they have mentioned that there's literally thousands of cosmetic items that'll get transfered, i'd be extremely surprised if the cosmetics from collector's/other packs weren't among them)

I also never got the plague doctor outfit. I do know it's sold separatEly in the cash shop, no idea if it is from a Halloween pack or not.

@TC - i don't know how much you played but that doesn't sound like a lot of clothing. Are all your abilities intact? Certain things like cosmetic items have to be Claimed from the item shop in game or redeemed from the delivered items menu, which is in the main menu in the top left when you're playing the game. There are outfits for completing Decks (these are on the left side of the Ability screen) - those are manually unlocked by clicking a claim button, which IIRC is at the bottom of the deck tab for each individual deck as you complete them.

Yeah I had a google search earlier and stumbled upon posts, think one was even from the devs themself saying plague doctor was a thing but I guess it was a limited time. I'll go try and find this claim stuff in game now and I'll let you know.

Sadly I only logged 11 hours due to stuff so not much in terms of gameplay as stated. I'm certain as well that 1-4 were free editions when the game was buyable and it was all the ones afterwards that cost money. Not to sure why 1-4 doesn't show under your products though in my account, perhaps I didn't register the original key? Will try that as well see what happens.

Also kinda concerned about that surprise chunk of storage being used, when patching the launcher stated it only needed 5.35gb, took a while for some reason and kinda glitched out as it went over by a bit to like 5.37gb IIRC. Once it all worked itself out though my storage dropped from 71gb to 59gb which the maths doesn't add up, should have something like 65.5gb of space left. You heard anything strange like that in your experience?

Okay got I followed your instructions and did my tests.

Test for trying to get 1-4 to show under "Your Products" did not work, tried both keys that I got so I'm going to go out on a limb and say they don't show there? Because surely I wouldn't be able to play if I didn't have those first issues?

I then noticed that there was a section mentioning reactivate account so I did that and it changed the date on my account page saying it's valid until today. (Did not buy a membership subscription).

Next thing to try was these decks that you mentioned Asasin, the silly thing is I don't think I ever knew that feature existed so thank you for letting me know about that. I hadn't completed any decks yet so there's no outfits from that to claim as far as I'm aware.

Lastly was looking at the item store. Would you believe how stupid I am, I never claimed anything. So the entire time I was playing from scratch despite thinking I definitely had extra stuff in the begining which I might have done but now I am really not sure. So I'm claiming all these high tier beginner weapons, steam shirts and a shriek halloween one, a pre-order shirt, ap and exp boost, the demon ring and cat as mentioned by Carillon.

I think that's then all the items I should have got??

I also went ahead and reserved my name for the release of TSWL I think.
Don't have any gold "F" coins and only have 10 silver "Star" coins, don't think I was entitled to any of those.

I think I'm now up to date?? Even if there might not be much time left because of TSWL haha.
