At least the cutscenes are relatively short, and you can kind of pick up the storyline you miss by not being able to read the dialog. I'm not deaf, and I still had to watch several times to catch the dialog.
You're right ! It seems to be only the french subtitle available, i didn't notice because that was perfect for me, so I didnt check the availability of other languages.
For other languages you should open the .ass (edit: thank you steam... read backward: "ssa.") file with notepad and put it in the translator of your choice (it works perfectly with google translate).
Exemple for first intro part:
Replace by:
now time to hunt down ALL the other videos that need the subtitles!
edit: you forgot to say where to find the files ^^;
edit2: ok i figured out, first of all, go in your game library and choose your game then click right to get the properties. finally, go in langages tab and set it any language of you choice. after this, you will be able to find it at "steamapps\common\The Book of Unwritten Tales\kagedata\lang\data\movies" which you will find these a$$ files.
however, i think we needs to double check between the video's dialogue and the subtitles because sometime, you will find some difference from the subtitles of a different language.
Happy to help, the path is :
There is only 4 videos, the intro in 2 parts and probably the end, but I haven't finished the game yet so I didn't check.
The bad thing is that it don't work ingame, you have to watch the video with VLC or maybe an other player.
Edit to answer edit2 :
The english subtitle from google translate is certainly different from the video yes, I just did it quickly to see if it works, and to make the video understandable for a non hearing person. As you should have understood I'm french and my english is far from perfect so the rough translation from google is satisfying for me but certainly perfectible.
Anyway it remain the job to do for the 3 other videos.
First, there aren't any other subtitles besides french, which is odd, because there IS at least a german language version.
English audio, no subs for English, Spanish and Korean (audio en ingles, sin subtitulos / 오디오, 영어, 자막 없음)
French = English audio, french subs (Audio en anglais, sous-titré en français)
German = German audio, no subs (Audio auf Deutsch, keine Untertitel)
Also, they used a free subtitling program (Aegisub) which you can get from their website and instantly edit subtitle tracks.
So guess what I'm doing right now?
For those new to the discussion, no, this does not add subs in-game. This is if you want to re-watch the prologue movies and have subtitles in English.
I have to change the links, so give me a few. Steam is being an ass.

Seems to work for me. Thank you for finishing the job.
You know, it wasn't until I was doing the subtitles myself that I realized it wasn't the rabbit talking in the gag reel. This is why subtitles are needed ;)
If anyone wants to take my subtitle tracks (which I colour-coded to match, as near as I could, the character colours actually used in the game), and modify them for their own native language, please feel free to.
And if the devs want to hire me to do their subtitles for future games, you know how to get in touch ;)
