WAKFU
Wakfu or Dofus?
and why

Wakfu:

+Teamplay is more fluid and fruitful
-Teamplay is required past early game unless you multibox
-PVP is imbalanced as heck
-Some classes are super strong, some are weak, even for PVE content
-Frequent reworks destroy classes
-Pretty much no English community
-Hard to find anyone to play with
-Grinding heavy

Dofus:
+Player skills/mechanics are more extreme and feel more impact
+Faster paced combat
+Overall balance in PVP and PVE is better.
+Not as team-reliant
+Grinding heavy. But not AS grinding heavy as Wakfu.
+Skill descriptions are better
-Effectively P2P
-Hard to find anyone to play with
-Pretty much no English community
-Graphics and UI are worse

In short, I'd suggest playing neither.
If you can get a group of friends to play with, I'd suggest trying out Wakfu, because it's easier to get into, and free.
And then make a decision based on that.

You can also try out Dofus for free, but the quick paywall is a kick in the pants.

didn't know Dofus had paid content. y I ll play Wakfu.

PRetty much the same way I see both games.

I would also just play Wakfu. Wakfu also has the advantage if being modern, meaning the game doesn't has fps issues like Dofus has.

Heard Dofus will get an engine revamp at the end of the year but ehh, you do need to sub if actually want to play

Don't get too invested.

I'd wait until they release the single-account server around the end of this year or hopefully early next year—that's if you don't plan on multiboxing/paying for the Hero System.

Everyone does either of those two in the current state of Wakfu, so you'll have a hard time finding groups when the content starts to get tougher.

it's not a game that i would care that much nor i would play it that long. For me it's just a game u would like to play with your friends or partner. I have neither but it was interesting enough to make me wanna "finish" the game at least. So i will just play it with my brother until end game turns into a loop then uninstall.

Thanks for the info tho.

Sure. Good luck.

Been around a ton of "online" TRPG/SRPG (Tactical/Strategy) and to be honest, both Dofus/Wakfu doesn't meet the "needs" we are looking for in a tactical environment due to their "one hero" setting. When play in groups there really isn't much "strategy" to start with due to everyone has their own way and tactics, and unless you always goes into a dungeon with the same group, else there will never be a static and good strategy to "stick to", and that can be very tiresome in the long run, especially with the games' low population...

The traditional SRPG/TRPG lets you handle your own team and characters in the battle/war. And that really gives the real "you are in control" type of strategy feel. The online versions we have "Fire Emblem" and "Langrisser M" which are both way way better than those introduced by Ankama and something you can stick with for years and not getting bored of, something that has high strategy value and makes you use your brain to play or even require you to look for walkthru or strategy guides online. Those are the real stuffs for SRPG lover imo... Especially if you love to compete with other players, Langrisser M's chess-like pvp can be very very fun to play (as well as fun to watch in live broadcast), there's also co-op play and a great deal of story and contents to explore. It's been years and the population of the game is only getting stronger over time, while the contents main story goes into part 3 (3rd world map) and still going, not to mention they included all Classic Langrisser 1~5 in the game... Plus, no forced commitment and totally casual in game play design. Highly recommended for sure.

i guess i need to inform you that not everyone likes party-based rpg where u control multiple people. Especially me. If It's not a CRPG like Divinity Original Sin or Baldur's Gate I don't want to control multiple people in combat. And even in those i would prefer to have players in control of each character if i could. It does nothing more than destroying the role-playing aspect of the game. This is one of the main reasons why i stopped playing Mihoyo games few weeks after they released. I love them, I love the characters and i want to see and read everything about the story/lore for years, but I just can't stand that party-play mechanic. It sound more like your "needs" which are more about "being in control of everything" and not about "rpg" side of games. It's not even that tbh u are just saying "if u play a strategy game with random people with random ideas without real-time communication it won't feel tactical", like.. yes? It's not the game it's you playing alone and getting frustrated because of it.

Just to make that clear i understand you and not being an idiot who is trying to say " u r just sad that u don't have any friends lol" without knowing about your life, I don't care about it, I am 22 years old and never had friends, played numerous competitive/tactial games online or offline. I don't think i need to express my frustration thru years. I will just say i even stopped playing games for a while. But I still prefer playing either my own character through the story/universe or playing an established single character's story even if they are not the only main character and feel like I m in a novel book. As I pointed out above i m not super into the game. I liked it's gameplay and visual design, just wanted to play through it's story and that's it.

Yeah, you said so yourself that your still young in age. Note that i am older than you are even by times 2 of your current age, so i do mean it when i said i've tried a tons of TRPG/SRPG out there, been a gamer way before the internet existed. :kisscat:

And judging from what you wrote, you are pretty much in to CRPG and do not understand what a classic TRPG/SRPG looks like as you are not into this genre a lot. Note that managing a full team doesn't mean you are playing alone, if you actually read what i wrote carefully, you can play your team against other people's team or co-op with other people in other TRPG online OR choose to play the whole game alone with the ability to pick whichever suitable heroes you like to tackle the stage/dungeon in the game (PvE) as far as "Strategy" concerns. Ankama is the one doing the opposite of what a traditional TRPG/SRPG usually does and goes into that 1 hero design, the odd-ball here is Ankama for this type of genre. It's not a CRPG game, and not even JRPG, so for TRPG/SRPG veterans, this game lacks a lot of features compared to the traditional ones. Note that I am fully aware of the Hero Pass of Wakfu where they let you play 3 characters if you pay up monthly, but the game battle is built for 5 (especially after LV100+), so they do not let a solo player have enough strategy power unless teamed up with other players or play with multiple accounts (aka Multiboxing), whereas in other SRPG online out there, this isn't a problem at all. It's also worth noting the official launcher includes the multibox feature where you can login multiple accounts but the Steam version one is broken and never been fixed. -- The game knows its weakness, that's why they allowed multi-boxing, but when it comes to implementing the feature, they'd rather put it behind a paywall while other SRPG let you have them for free as core features.

And SRPG does have that "RPG" story parts. And to be honest. some even have far larger lore than Dofus... Langrisser for example existed way way before Dofus and is there before the Internet age. One of the "legendary" early SRPG around with decades of stories and contents to fill up a thick history book. And some of these SRPG (known as SLG in the past) existed back before even Home PC is a thing.

Well, judging from your other posts, you're the jumpy type that can easily get into a fight in forums alike, someone who doesn't have "forum-flaming-immunity" yet or "too young in age"... so giving you a history of what SRPG/TRPG will probably kills your patient and make you angry for no reason. So i guess i'll stop here. Wish you a pleasant gaming day ahead! :winkycat:

I never talked about the games u suggested. I talked about your interests and criticism. try to ask what people mean next time, because it looks like you are pretty bad at understanding what u read unlike you are trying to represent by saying "if you actually read what i wrote carefully".

You are still repeating yourself even tho i clearly stated 1 - i don't care about those things, 2- I don't care traditionality in gaming i care about what is best for me. You are having a hard time to understand that I really don't care if you are so into traditional RPGs.

I never talked about the end game of Wakfu. Almost literally everything I said was outside of Wakfu don't know why u are so attached to it ok u don't like somethings about it we get it.

tbh after the way you are tried "justify" yourself even tho there was no argument in the first place, after I clearly stated I am not even trying to argue or talk down and just trying to explain what i like; trying to talking down to me by using cringe arguments like " you said so yourself that your still young in age, Note that i am older than you are even by times 2 of your current age" like really? I guess the wisdom you have for gaming doesn't go well for real life experiences and maturity huh. But it's ok you are not alone more than %90 of the population probably would use that argument because u know older u are more u know am i right? right?. Anyways after reading that i really felt like i wasted time. Why am i writing wall of texts again then? well it's 9 AM and my stomach doesn't feel good so i can't even have breakfast and i am waiting.

Look there is a misunderstanding, mostly i don't even respond to people for 5 seconds because they are %99 not worth it, sometimes if i am super bored I entertain myself with peoples' stupidity, or rarely I just writes wall of texts to someone when they approach normally and sounds better than average human and it's completely random. So I just responded you like that because u were trying to help, I got nothing better to do at that moment and I just felt like i want to talk. So please, don't feel so special after looking at my other posts.

Also I love how people always assume I m angry when all we are doing using keyboards and talking in text without any expressions lol it's one of the bests really. dw I won't use stupid arguments like "OH so YoU GoT sO inTeRestEd U sTalKeD aLL mY ProFilE HisTorY u WeirDo" unlike your "age" and "i know better" arguments. I don't even know what do u know better like how u playing more RPGs than me makes a difference like i was talking about our interests in RPGs like-. Anyways, I am not judging tho I mean I don't need to feel some certain emotion to talk about facts either when it's about games or it's about a person, but how many people can do it right they can't even talk about anything else than their own facts. So yeah it's normal to assume that i guess. But just to inform you you are probably talking about posts that i either bait idiots in the forum or making them feel stupid and mad while I am cooking.

I don't know how the hell u got it so personal It was one of the most polite and neutral long conservation i had in a really long time with a human being without feeling disgust or hate and somehow u made it about yourself because you are sensitive about your age and experiences i guess. or you just want to feel like you are the "right" person even there is no argument. I don't know at this point i don't care whatever.

There's a reason for that and you are fully aware of it don't you? :winkycat:

And yeah, predictable answer too... "I don't care" (But cared enough to write a wall of text) :laughcat:

Knew you're going to say that, that's why i stopped writing about the SLG history halfway, even though that might've helped those who stumbled upon this tread and interested in the topic. Public threads are often meant for information sharing, so you are not the only one who is reading. But well... hard to argue with someone who isn't immune to forum flaming, and just here being polite to reply to your "i don't care" wall of text so you won't felt left out. Not saying i am old, but there's that "been there, done that" thingy... we all made mistakes in the past. And this will turn into a past for you someday in the future. And hopefully you will become a more patient and well... less jumpy and hold a stronger heart against flaming online.

P/S: You don't have to go to someone's profile to see their forum's post. It's right under each user's name in the forum when you click them.

Mmm, plenty of roguelikes (and -lites) have single character designs that revolve around a tactical combat system. I've always wavered in and out of playing single-character games of this sort, so ankama isn't really alone here. Plus it's meant to be an mmo after all. So their decision makes sense in that aspect.

Dealing with an entire team can get draining or be too intimidating for some folks, so single char ones act as an entry point for some into the overall genre.

(Also I'm unsure which fire emblem you're talking about here? Is the technically-new-this-year-or-so switch one supposed to have proper coop and versus modes finally? Would be neat if so.)

Not sure what you're on about but Dofus and Wakfu reign supreme when it comes to MMO SRPG, anything else barely even exists, there isn't actual competition. Fire emblem and Langrisser are solo series through and through, not MMOs nor proper multiplayer games, so the "solo character vs team control" point is void, I've never seen an actual MMO SRPG where people somehow play together while also controlling the entire team, the closest to doing this would be... Dofus and Wakfu, when using the hero system or several accounts

Engage works the same as the rest of the series, multiplayer is an afterthought, might as well not exist. Story is cringe but the actual gameplay, mechanics and difficulty are some of the best the series ever provided

Langrisser M is just a gacha
Not a bad one by any means, gameplay is tight, but still a gacha, multiplayer isn't really a focus, and there's the whole predatory money-scheme going on. Definitely the one to pick over the fire emblem gacha if you had to pick one
