You should be able to find most of the food pets eat on the market - you'll only need 50.
If the pet is fed something it doesn't like it takes 1 damage.
If you die your pet takes damage.
To find out what your pet likes to eat hover your mouse over the feeding area after right clicking on your pet. This will show a full list.
The date you fed your pet on will also be displayed.
A good measuring unit for when to feed your pet is if you see you need to pray at almanax alter it's safe to feed it.
If you want to heal the pet you can either buy items which heal it or become a chef and make a healing item for it with flax seeds and water. A very easy recipe
All the bits that it eats, check wakfu-elements to see where/how they drop
Rat tail - http://wakfu-elements.com/items/view/3566
The others seem to drop off level 50(ish) mobs
*edits* wakfu-elements doesn't mention "kibble bits" at all, so wondering if it just means anything with kibble? The description for "First Choice Kibble" says ""This kibble is suitable for all pets and petsmounts." but no idea how you get it. There's also a "Mimikibble" that drops from a lot of different mobs - might be worth trying to drop it and see if that works?
You may have to kill them before you can harvest their tails though
Lava eye, rat tail, quartz, etc are higher level items something like 40-50ish and you'll have a hard time finding them at lower level unless you can get some from a guild mate, or on the market. It takes me days to find lava eyes or quartz on the market, and it usually runs 200-500 each so i make sure that i only feed my phoenix every few days unless i can find some on the market in quantity and decent price.
Feeding the mount and pets are easy, feeding the Phoenix is much more difficult because the items are higher level items and a level 10 person won't be out finding them any time soon.
So
check the market each day to see if any of the Phoenix food is on the market, and at a decent price. If food is short, don't feed it every day but every few days to stretch out the minimal food you have. If you get lucky and find a bunch on the market grab them quick, everyone else is looking for them also.
942 x rugged quartz on Nox Server market at 99 kamas each right this moment.
Anyone know for sure that they do drop?
Don't stress too much. If your pet dies, it doesn't die forever. You can heal lost HP (even if the pet is at 0) by feeding the pet Osamodas Powder. It can eat as much of that as you can feed it in a day, does not level the pet up, but does heal it.
The only thing negative about a pet dying is that while it is at 0HP, you won't receive its bonuses (if it's still equipped), and won't be able to equip it (if it's not). As soon as you get it to 1HP or higher, you will receive the bonus and be able to equip it again.
Osamodas Powder is a level 0 Chef Craft made of 5 Thistle Seed and 2 Bucket o' Water.
if you can't get the food yet, don't worry. Just toss the pet in your haven bag chest for now until you can find some, and make a bit of Osa Powder for when you want to start using it again.
It might not be possible to get rat tails then, I checked on the higher level rats and they dont have any rat tail harvests.
Rugged quartz seems like the best solution then :o
