I just double checked this by Google searching the phrase "wakfu" and it turns out that you're right. My bad.

it may be based on the lore indeed and some elements of gameplay but both can play very differently . one is more sandboxy than the other

It's not even an anime. It's dessin animé, or if you recognize the fact that we are speaking english now, it's a cartoon. French != Japanese.

The Wakfu game takes place 10 years before the anime. (To confirm that, If you look at the official "Wakfu Trailer - Thirst of Saharash" video it tells you its 10 years before the anime)

well in 2012 was 12 years, but ankama does a nice thing: the time is not static.

Actually it's already on Netflix in english. It's much better in french, but the english version is still pretty watchable.

It is not. The game takes place 1000 years before the first season of Wakfu the animated series.
