WAKFU
Answering New Player Questions! (Plus FAQ in the OP!)
**Edit: I am no longer active in this topic. Thanks for all the great questions!
I'll be leaving this up as a resource to future players. Keep in mind though that this topic was posted in 2014, shortly after the game came to Steam, and some of the info here may not apply to the current version of the game.**

Feel free to ask any questions you may have about Wakfu here, or find me ingame when i'm online. My character is Caelael.

I do not work for Ankama, so I may not be able to answer EVERYTHING. I am simply a player who has been around for almost two years, played most of the classes at least once, and has a level 130+ main. I'll do the best I can.

I will not answer questions about builds or which spells you should level. I am not experienced with every class enough to be telling you these things. Sorry about that!

***PLEASE do not ask or answer questions about what to buy and sell to make money. This can actually end up hurting the economy. Instead, I direct you all to http://wakfu-elements.com/ where anyone can research the market for themselves.***

**Also, please check the thread and FAQ first to make sure your questions haven't already been answered! Thanks!**

FAQ:
Q: Is Wakfu free?
A: Wakfu is free with an option to buy a Booster Pack. You can also buy cosmetics and pets from the Boutique, but many of these items are also sold in-game by other players for kamas as well. I am a f2p player with 2 level 80 characters and 1 130 character. You absolutely do not need to pay to enjoy the game or get to high level.
Free players get:
-Access to all of the content (with the exception of the very latest adventure island for endgame)
-Every Class
-Every Crafting Profession
-Run for Governor
-Join Guilds
-Reach level cap
-Play as long as you want
-Pretty much the whole game

The benefits for buying a Booster Pack are detailed here:
http://www.wakfu.com/en/mmorpg/booster-benefits

Q: How do I allocate specialty points?
A: Every level you earn 5 specialty points to put towards levels in your specialty spells.
To find the location you allocate these, press P on your keyboard to open your Characteristics window or click the farthest left icon on the bottom of the client. From there, click "Display Abilities." The upper tab (that looks like a scroll) in this window is for allocating your characteristic points. The lower tab (the Iop Head) is for allocating your specialty points. Once you open the specialty tab, the spells on the left are your Active Specialties and on the right are your Passive Specialties.

Q: Once I chose spells, or stat my points, can I ever change them?
A: Yes! The way you do this is with something called a "Respec" which will allow you to gain any spell levels you missed through questing, and change around where those levels are distributed, as well as change all of your Characteristic and Specialty Points. You can get a respec in a few different ways. The easiest of which is simply to level up, as you get two free ones, one each at level 30 and level 80. There is also a quest you can take from your nation's Jonk or Bossowl which will require you to grind out a massive amount of drops from level 30 mobs. This quest can be completed once a month. In my opinion, if you haven't hit level 80 yet and need a respec, it would likely be easier for you to get to 80 than to complete the quest. The third way to get a respec is to buy a Scroll of Absolution from the Boutique for 4,000 ogrines. Scrolls can be used once a week.

Q: What do I do once I join a nation?/Where are all the quests???
A: Wakfu is a sandbox game, and is not quest-centric like WoW. Once you join a nation, you won't see quests again for a while (Level 80ish). After that, you will unlock a new questline every ten levels or so, but that questline won't just hand you those ten levels (but it will hand you between 1-3 levels). Once you join a nation, here's all the things you can do until you hit 80: Join a guild, grind, do area challenges, drop gear you need, run dungeons, play the market, collect and level pets, collect costumes, collect emotes, roleplay, travel to Adventure Islands, visit the Trool Fair, get a dragoturkey (at level 36), take up a crafting profession, take up a gathering profession, get powerleveled (don't push that one), or start the Ootomai's Breastplate Quest (which you can pick up in Astrub). Most of your early levels will likely come from grinding, but there are a lot of other things to do to spice-up your gameplay experience.

Q: How much is _____ worth? What can I sell to make money?
A: If I told you what to sell to make money, everyone would start grinding for and selling those items, thus making them worthless. You can, however, research this yourself using this website: http://wakfu-elements.com/
Wakfu Elements is the single best resource for the ingame market, as well as item stats and character building. Explore the site and bookmark it so you never lose it.

Q: What gear to I put on my character?
A: Again, I point you to Wakfu Elements. They have an extensive set-builder which can help you build your character and gear at any level. You can search for exactly what you want from your gear and check out your approximate stats with that gear before you drop or buy anything. Give it a look. I think you'll really find it useful. http://wakfu-elements.com/builder

Q: Are there NPC merchants in this game?/What do I do with items I don't want?
A: There are no NPC merchants in Wakfu. Anything you buy or sell will involve another player somehow, whether that be at the market boards, inside haven bags, or direct trades with other players. That being said, you don't HAVE to sell items you don't want or need. Not all items are even worth the time to sell.
Your other options inclufe:
1) Simply deleting the item by clicking it in your inventory then clicking the trashcan button.
2) Dropping it on the ground for another player to possibly pick up by dragging it onto the ground. (Doesn't work for non-tradable items.)
3) If you are a member of a guild, many guilds have bank space allocated toward common items such as mob drops and keys for crafters to take advantage of.
4) If your guild has a Haven World, you can help out your guild by placing those items in their resource chest in the Haven World so that you can build more things inside it.
5) Take up a crafting profession. You can potentially use those useless items to make better things down the road and flip them for money on the market.

Q: Do I have to feed my pet if it's in my haven bag?/What happens if my pet reaches 0 HP ("dies")?
A: You have to feed your pet for as long as you own it if you don't want it to ever lose HP. It can lose HP through hunger in your inventory, while equipped, while listed on the market, while in the account chest, while in a trade window, in your haven bag, or anywhere else. However, if a pet loses all of its HP, don't worry! Any pet can have its HP restored by feeding it Osamodas Powder. One powder fed = 1 HP healed. Osamodas Powder can be fed to a pet multiple times a day and does not level the pet when consumed. It is a LVL 0 Chef craft made of thistle seeds and water.

If your pet reaches 0 HP, you will not be able to equip it until it is healed to at least 1HP, and you will lose the stats it grants until you heal it (if you have it equipped when it dies). You will not lose the pet. "Dead" pets are still able to be listed on the market, sold in Haven Bags, and traded.

Q: I somehow became an outlaw towards (instert nation here). How do I remove the outlaw statue?
A: You can remove outlaw status by being killed by a guard of the nation you are an outlaw towards.

Make sure to party with your friend. You can do this by right clicking his character and selecting invite to party. Once someone in the party starts a battle, nearby party members will get a notice asking if they want to join in. If you where not close enough for the notice to get you, you can have your friend wait in the preparation mode and find where the battle is by looking at your map. Then youll see the sword that represents the battle about to start and click on that and click to join. Once the battle has started however, you cannot join your friend anymore.
Two questions

1) What is the different between each nation

2) Do you know of any air (main)/fire cra builds (Or would it be better to just go air) , i only use two of the fire spells ( beacon and the 3x3 spell) but the air spells i dont know which ones to focus on more. What stats do i put points in, the only one i know to put them in right now are more hp of hp regeneration and crit

UOU, ImportantLlama, MANY thanks!!! Incredibly complete answer!!! :D

Do you mind if I make a few more questios?

I - Do you think the ogrest pack worth getting? It's super expensive. Not sure how long would take me ingame to grab all the pack has to offer.

II - Does my party size changes the experience I get? Like having two sidekicks would make me get less exp?

III - Kind sad about lvl 100 and after. The time I have to play is kind messed up and little, so I'll probably not being able to join people a lot. Any good character I could maybe solo till lvl 160? Was thinking of Sram, Feca or Masqueraider. Want a char to solo but also complex and fun. :)

Once again, many thanks!!!

Edit: made a post to ask this, but could also ask here:

"Hi! I'm from Brazil, but I would like to make a char on Remington. My question is if I will have more lag if compared to the portuguese server, or the the only thing changes is the language?"
It really is no problem. :) I enjoy helping others!

1. I would say yes, if you're planning on sticking around. None of the items are available ingame, unless you buy them from other players. Even so, they're very expensive to buy with Kamas. Consider carefully if you plan on sticking around long enough to use all the booster time, and if you really enjoy the game enough to spend that much money on it.

2. Yes. If you fight with two sidekicks, you will need to fight larger groups to maintain the amount of EXP you get without them. Compare your group's combined level with the level of the group of mobs you're getting. The ratios should stay similar. So if you're a level 10 fighting level 20 groups, a party with you (level 10) and two level 10 sidekicks would need to fight groups level 40-60 ish. That doesn't mean higher level monsters, that means bigger groups of the SAME monsters.

3. Srams are very strong right now. Dual summon osa isn't very complex, but might serve you well for a long time. Feca is more for PvP at the moment, and I don't see Masques hardly at ALL past level 100 on Nox. There are a few, but they are definitely a minority, and I suspect the reason has to do with their late-game potential. No class will allow you to solo the entire game, unfortunately. Keep looking, you may just find someone yet! Don't give up!

As for your question about server choice, as far as I know, server choice has little to do with lag. I used to play on APAC (Wakfu Asia) from North America and didn't notice any extra lag other than from the large amounts of players in a given area. I cannot speak for the Steam client, however, as I have only played on Nox using it.

1. There really is no difference between the four main nations. They all give the same bonuses. Really, it's all aestetic and layout. Bonta is the easiest to navigate, and very straightforward. Amakna is massive, but still very easy to navigate. Sufokia is large and a bit difficult to navigate due to bridges and high peaks in some of the later zones. Brakmar is mid-sized (similar to bonta) but a bit hard to navigate in some places due, again, to bridges and raised land-masses. In short, join the same nation as your guild is alligned with, or join a nation with your friends.
Riktus is different, and you cannot join it until level 36 or 38 (I forget). I would not recommend a starting player to join it until much later in the game. There are no mobs, and no actual landmass there. It's not a real nation. If you get a quest to talk to the leader of the Riktus Clan, do speak to him, but DO NOT ask to join the Riktus Clan, unless you're sure that's what you want to do.

2. Actually, I can help with this! I have played every possible element combo of Cra, so here we go.
If you are using the AOE fire spell for your main damage, I would recommend grabbing these spells and specialties:
Homing Arrow: for those times you are out of the fight, or have extra AP.
Plaguing Arrow: Between allies and beacons blocking your LOS, you might need a spell to shoot right through them sometimes.
Retreat Arrow OR Storm Arrow: Retreat is a very effective escape, but get storm arrow instead if you decide to stat Disengage. I don't find the Air beacon to be very useful.

Specialties (In this order):
Cra Precision (Max this ASAP, it will REALLY boost your damage)
Disengage (Unless you get Retreat Arrow) (Put a point into this every few levels, maxing is isn't necessary)
Heightened Vision (Max this ASAP, it is important to a fire/air build)
Archery (Alternate points between this and Powerful Shooting)
Powerful Shooting (Alternate points between this and Archery)
-Everything past this point is optional and interchangable-
Long Distance Combat (Crits are important to a Fire Cra build, and this gives you a bit of a boost on that, in exchange for a bit of AP and MP.)
Beacon Sneakin (If you DO get Retreat Arrow, this is nice to have as an alternate escape)
Unbeacon (Useful to put a few levels into for if you really need to move your beacons.)
Bat's Eye (Not many Cras I know use this, but you may find it useful. Don't touch it until you've considered all of the above first)

You do not need Riddling, period. Riddling is for Earth Cras only.

As for characteristics, major points should go first to AP, then to MP or WP or "Range and Damage" (if you are having trouble even using 6 WP then stat one of the other options. By level 110, you should be able to get 5MP fairly easily without statting any. Just keep that in mind.) After that, final damage is nice to have, unless you didn't stat Range and Damage before. If so, stat that at 125. Beyond that, it's up to you.

For the others, any combination of all damage + elemental resist (Stat more resist into the element you don't have naturally. So, water.), crits, dodge, initiative, crit damage and life steal will serve you well. Put damage and dodge before HP and life steal early on though. HP regen isn't really worth it later on. Life Steal is a much better investment, and you ought to max it at some point.

Hope that helps you out! If you need any clarification, just ask. I feel like that was a bit all over the place. Haha.

I use the air spells for my main damage , I only use the fire if their a big group of enemies. I only use retreat arrow if something is right in front of me, i use the air beacon to push the enemies around if needed.

is it a bit less usefull to pyt points in MP if some set give you more? ( i currently wearing the tofus set and it give +1 MP)
WP i have no problems with right now

Hmm...interesting build. I would definitely swap retreat for Storm then and put a few points in disengage. If you're only using the air beacon to push, you don't need to level it.

I'm talking waaay later on the others. MP is less useful all around, as AP is more important early on. You get gour second major point at 75, and by then you're very close to gear possibilities to get 2 MP from gear (boots and breastplates can both give MP). Once you have more AP to use in a turn (around level 100, most weapons give AP, as well as cloaks, and some amulets.) you may find you use more WP, depending on your beacon usage. Like I said, you may find that you need neither WP or MP by the time it comes around to chosing. if that is the case, go for range+damage.

I would also suggest you rethink Air being your main damage. The Air tree of Cra is the weakest DPT. Fire is the highest. Even if you only use Explosive Arrow and the beacon from your fire tree, and air for its accessabiity and map-manipulation, you'll come off far better, damage wise. Just my two-cents there.

So I have discovered the miracle of Mercenary quests. They are repeatable and I just have to hand int 10 of an item so I can complete these missions before I ever get them. Not only that, the higher level zones give a ton of exp. This is great for casual players like myself that want to level up but cannot grind the dungeons all day. Just log in, hand in the quest and then log out, and do it again tomorrow.

The problem is that now, since I'm not fighting anything, my skills will be severely underleveled if I abuse this feature. I've read through the thread and it sounds like that if I use the respec at level 80,

1.) will I get back all of the exp that I would have missed by not grinding out the spells manually? If that is true, then this is great.

However, if this is not true then I need a way to power level up my skills. I was thinking of maybe finding a single big-open-world monster that I can spam my abilities with and end the fight quickly.

2.) Is spamming skills on a single big monster a good way to power level the skills?

Also, I can't for the life of me find a list of all of the mercenary missions in the game. I would like to prioritize leveling in zones where I can turn in the mats for mob kills for extra exp.

3.) Is there a list of mercenary missions, and is there mercenary mission that requires Goball or Blibli mats?

I found a mission that requires cow mats, and a key to a royal cow dungeon, I'm assuming it's level 22, but it's not in Bonta,

4.) I don't know where the cow dungeon is. Any help?

1. Yes, you will get that exp back.

2. Anything higher leveled than you (single mob or groups) is a decent way to grind spell exp. A great way to level spells fast is to have a high-leveled friend take you along on a fight or two of their level, use every spell you want to level once (so they all get the same amount of exp), then go back to fighting normal mobs on your own.

3. Not that I know of, but I haven't been a lowbe since those were released. Sorry about that.

4. The Royal Moogrr Dungeon is in Bonta ion the western side of Cania Plains. If you are not Bontarian and your nation is not allied with them, you can still get to Bonta by Zaap. The dungeon itself is rediculously leveled (40 or 60, I can't remember). However, around the dungeon outside there are Moogrrs and Mooflies you can fight to drop the key and the mats without entering the dungeon.
Not really that much of info for new player but I was wondering if there in this group is anyone who is on Remington server who has bit more experience than I do (play time total of 42 hours) would love to meet you in game and follow along to see what there is to do how it is doable for me. so I'd like to ask you to contact me, maybe send a friend request on Steam and we'd meet on the playingfield :)

Small word about this group/discussion page, I think there hasn't ever been such great help on games before that I play (except for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game the group I've started on the internet but other than that nothing as good as this place is)

I'm happy you think so! Thank you. :) Wakfu has just had a difficult time in the past keeping new players around due, in part, to an unwelcoming and unhelpful community full of veteran players. I figured someone should step up and be a friendly face in the crowd. Welcome to Wakfu!

Glad to hear someone has brains for difficult task =) well maybe not that difficult, all needed is bit of knowledge of the game and inspiration and enough own readiness to do something about it

A multiman or two are really the only things that are particularly useful for a starting player in the shop.
