Once the Steam's VaM files are updated to the latest free update version (1.20.77.8 at the moment), you might have to do a bit of a file fix manually.
In the [...]\VaMX\Keys folder, if you don't see any folder called "1.22", you have to create one named that and copy/paste the "key.json" located in the "1.20" or, if present, "1.21" folder into that new "1.22" folder. Repeat the same process for a new folder in the "Keys Teaser" folder.
In the explanation above, [...] in the path can be the Steam's app folder (...\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common), or whatever path which define the location of the VaM folder on the PC. Once the client gets patched with the updated (from the link above), it becomes independant to the Steam API, hence it might be a good idea to move it out of the Steam's apps folder.
I have so much stuff broken, and I wasn't aware that Steam's 1.20 was separate from VAM's current state.
