bought a key for the HTML5 module off G2A
I did exactly what I stated in the title. I desperately want to be able to make HTML5 games with game maker and stumbled across a key that was for sale for like 3 euros so I said why not. I can't get it to work though. I put in the code and it tells me to put in a license key for game maker first (which I have) but when putting that in it tells me its invalid even though I bought the software and everything. I know you can't officially buy the modules for 1.4 anymore but seriously? Is there really NO way I'm able to use a key that I bought second hand?

also don't tell me to upgrade to GMS2 because that's just not an option right now

That's why you shouldn't be buying things second-hand like that. While the site requires individuals to present a receipt before playing a product on their marketplace, there are no verification checks if the code is valid or not. One of the reasons why they sell "buyer protection".

There's also been instances where publishers and developers have found that codes they've given away, had in bundles, etc are being resold and as a result invalidate those codes. It's essentially the same thing as GameStop and other used video game stores reselling used games - they receive full profit while the publisher/developer gets nothing. Which led to some turning to the "service" model, where you're paying a subscription fee to their products.

look man, I'm not upset about wasting money since it was like 3 dollars, I just want to know if theres anyway to get the HTML5 module whatsoever without having to shell out a feckton of money for studio2. don't preach to me about the ethics of buying a 3rd party key when yoyogames literally made it impossible for me to get the thing I want in a legit fashion.

secondly I think its BS that just because I didn't buy it at the right time I have literally no way of obtaining it, not even from a reseller.

In short, unless there's an authorized retailer out there that still has a backlog of product codes they're selling it would seem as though its not possible.

I've contacted their helpdesk about complete license transfers since I own all the modules, but honestly haven't touched the program in over two years, so waiting to see what they say.

When you can, accept the friend request I sent you. Has to do with the license for that module.

You should still contact Yoyo about this, if the key isnt legit there isnt much they can do, however its still good they know people are scamming under their name (especially since G2A say they will give devs back 10 times their lost revenue)
