Black screen on startup
When I start the game, it only shows the cursor, everything else in completely blank. Every other game on my PC runs fine.

I've got the same issue. When I launch the game through steam I get a black screen with only a cursor and steam overlay working. When I launch common/half minute hero/HMH.exe directly, the game shows up as a process and immediatly exits (without popping up as a window). When trying to verify integrity of game cache, 1 file constantly fails validation. Running 64-bit windows 7. I have ofcoarse tried to manually install the Direct x sdk that followed with the game (and restarting the computer+steam), to no avail.

Hi guys. Has this problem always occured or did it start happening after you had played for a bit? Did you delete local data or save files?

And thank you for also having the problem. Probably wouldn't have bothered posting if I was the only one. :P

Thanks for taking the effort to solve these problems! :)
I've deleted both local data and save data (also on the cloud). Doesn't help.
The problem was there from the moment it was installed. Also, copying the gamefolder from steam on my stationary pc(where the problem occurs) over to steam on my laptop, the game runs just fine (on my laptop). The file that keeps failing validation is installscript.vdf. However, the same happens on my laptop, where the game runs just fine, so i think failing validation on that file doesn't matter. I could post Dxdiag files for more info on my systems. Got a GTX460 on the stationary and a GT540m on the laptop. The video drivers for the GTX460 are updated.

I hope you solve the problem, for both of your sakes. I will just play it on my laptop for now.

Mine happened straight after install as well, I haven't had a chance to play it yet because of this issue. I've completely reinstalled the game twice, but nothing else.

Thank you for being awesome enough to listen to the users. I wanted to get this game for PSP a while ago, but now it's on PC it's saved me a lot of hassle. Please fix the problems quickly, I'd like to play the game I've been waiting years for :)

Hi guys, could you please try going to your Steam install directory and navigate to the following:
\steamapps\common\Half Minute Hero\res

Then, DELETE the file called "logomovie" and see if that helps.

It didn't affect anything for me.

I've got the same problem.

1. Deleted LogoMovie - No
2. Verified Cache and reinstalled - No
3. Restarted computer - No

Any other suggestions?

The game works for me now. Nothing is different from last time I tried, so I reckon that you found and patched the bug. Gold star for you Lonesteban, for caring and fixing our problems. You rock!

I'm still having the same issues.

I wish I could take credit, but to my knowledge we haven't patched anything yet... Mortissia and Shutterblyby, could you please give me more details on your systems?

What do you need to know?
Lonesteban Oct 9, 2012 @ 10:27pm
What version of windows you are using, what kind of hardware you have, etc. The more I know about your system the easier it will be for us to diagnose the problem. I don't need any personal information. Thanks!

Vista 32-bit, Service Pack 2
i3 processor, 3,1 GHz
4GB RAM
Asus 6570 video card (AMD)

Anything else that might help?

Can you tell me your ATI display driver version, please? Also, your version of Direct X.
