When you uninstall a game the normal way, either via Steam or an Uninstaller program, they usually leave behind files for the game, almost always a Config file for your settings, and save files.
I Installed it again and the save game is still there. Could this be Steam Cloud related?
Apparently disabling Steam Cloud and deleting your save causes HMH to crash instead of create a new save. I found another instance of someone reporting this happening and this happened to me. All we have to do is give HMH a blank save to start with.
First, make sure Steam Cloud is disabled for HMH (properties -> updates -> uncheck Enable Steam Cloud).
Second, delete the save file for HMH (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\(your user number)\214830). Just delete the entire folder named "214830".
Third, restart steam in offline mode and run HMH. This will cause HMH to generate a new, blank save file.
Finally, bring steam back into online mode. HMH should now run without crashing and won't try to redownload your save file. It should use the blank file it made in offline mode.
So these are the steps I've done:
1. Restart in offline mode
2. Delete the save-file located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\(your user number)\214830\remote\HMHSAVEDATA
3. Start the game in steam, notice that the game will show the message *saving data* instead of *loading data* after you pressed the any-key at the title screen
4. Exit the game
5. Restart in online mode
6. Start the game
Steam cloud will now prompt you with a *sync conflict*, choose *upload local data* and there you go - a new blank game that is synchronised with your steam cloud.
I would still prefer if there was a *reset game* option within the game menu, but thanks to bah.Ripture I'm now able to start from the beginning after I just tried out the game for a couple of minutes two weeks ago and decided to save it for the upcoming holidays. :-)
This is an awesome post! +1 award! They should have something within the game that allows you to do this... but unfortunately, no. You can probably also use this trick to backup the existing save and reload if you wish. Just go offline and replace the save, then go online and upload to the cloud. Boom! You now have your own unnecessarily complicated method of multiple save slots!
This stuff should be in a guide!
