This game is just too damn hard!
I really like this game but have given up on it because some of the platforming is just too damn difficult. I'm no newbie when it comes to platforming games but this is just torture.

I got as far as the Temple of War (~ 66% ish I think) which has lots of moving platforms which require many transitions, jumps and phase shifts and if you miss even one, you fall right to the bottom.

This is not fun.

There had already been sections which were difficult but I pushed through them and then the game was fun again for a bit until the next punishing section. The prospect of the difficulty ramping up even more in the last third of the game just put me off. If I am already struggling here I cannot be bothered. Maybe my controller (a Saitek P990) is the best but it's not bad and at least I'm not trying to finish it on keyboard.

I do think Drinkbox has really missed a trick here as if I am giving up on this game then I think many, many people will way beforehand.

Do you guys agree or do you think there is a place for "rock hard" games that have no difficulty settings and you should just have to push through.

STOP KNOCKING ALREADY!
I just got the shift ability and there is no doubt that the wall jumping back and forth while shifting between the planes is overly punishing. But that tends to be the trends with most games these days... no longer offering an enjoyable energizing experience and more aimed at challenging the basement mutations who complain on the forums about games being too easy/short etc. I basically just have enough patience to try to push through one checkpoint at a sitting lately... then I've had enough.

I found the controls to be extremely tight on a 360 pad. I don't know if other controllers might have different dead zones or something with their analogue stick. If so, developing with the 360 pad in mind might make the game unbalanced with other controllers.

if this is hard then what about spelunky or super meat boy?

There is definately nothing wrong with the game, if your having trouble finishing it you probly have a bad control scheme going on.

That's weird, I found everything but hell rather easy.
Although compared to other 2D platforming games, this was a lot harder, so I can see how it might be a struggle for someone who's not too into platforming games, personally, I loved it, wouldn't have it any other way.

There definitely needs to be an easier setting. The art and humor are all great, but the difficulty level is preventing me from wanting to play much further. I'm all for games having hard or extreme difficulty settings for those who like to torture themselves, but I'm more interested in having fun.

Wut? This game is pretty easy, completed it in 6 hours without any struggle..
Super Meat Boy isn't even in the same difficulty league!

The only hard parts are the optional ones (like Treetops which was challenging, or the disappearing platforms), but as the word says, they're optional, you can complete the game without even knowing about them.

Hello i am stuck in the temple of war part. There is a section where i am supposed to jump through some thornwalls with dimensional changes. I try to reach to eastern plattform by this combo: jump+evade, blue dash to the right, red upper cut, jump. I use desktop mode, because my game is too fast in fullscreen and a 360 controllerr. I tried it 50 times, i cannot get the blue dash after the jump right. I am falling too fast downward before i can do the dash combo. I would appreciate helpfull tips.

The puzzle plattform parts are no fun. The game does not get anything through this platform puzzles. More skills and enemies would be much more fun then frikking impossible jump n run parts. It does not help that i get the feeling input lag is responsible for my bad performance in the tricky platform parts.

Edit1: Uff i managed to do it. The tutorial for the dash is misleading. After experimenting i found out that the for a dash you have to push into a direction and special attack. Not push <-,-> + special attack. Never trust your mentors :).

have a nice day

My advice is to go play through La-Mulana. Somehow that game makes everything you'll ever play after it feel like a cakewalk.

Thanks for the advice, i played through Cave story without much problem, beside thirdy tries for the endbosses. I have bought La maluna exsteam so i will try this after Guacamole. The puzzle platform parts seem a little offplace for a metrovania game none the less.

Have a nice day

The only qualms I really get is with the dodge-platforming puzzles, where you have to dodge into the rose thorns and instantly execute a handful of specials to get across. It's just a tad too finicky for me :/ In the Temple of War, shortly after getting the Derpderp dash and the part where you have to dodge jump past roses and execute an air jump, uppercut AND dash all in one swoop is just aggervating :/

The issue I have with the game is that it's mostly very easy, but there are sections here and there that are just frustratingly hard and unfair. Especially the last two boss fights. They are so terribly designed. I enjoyed the rest of the game, but these parts practically ruined the experience for me. It really annoys me when I play games like this. Games that are mostly great and a lot of fun, but that are overall ruined by a few terribly designed sections.

I wholeheartly disagree with the statements that this game is difficult or has bad design.

I haven't played platformers for years and i played Guacamelee on keyboard and still finished the normal mode in two play-sessions. I only ragequit once on the Tree when i didn't know how to solve jumping in one room. But when i returned after a while of experimenting i found a solution. Eveerything else was just fine after few attempts.

And the same with the last double bossfight. I died repeatedly until i learned the patterns and then it became the easiest boss fight in the game. Every move is telegraphed well and i had no big problem finishing the game.

Anyone saying this game is to hard has too short attention span or badly set controls.

I don't think the game itself is hard on normal. I think the input system is clunky and poorly implemented. Some of the level design's difficulty boils down to battling with the input system.

This is a problem with all their games and I hope it get more attention in whatever they make next because they do make some otherwise fun games for the price.

There definately is a latency in the controls.
I'm a drummer and worked sessions with click tracks all my life.
Maybe you have to be really crap at timing to beat the bosses.
