Not sure about UI size, maybe there are mods for that. One solution I know is decreasing the monitor resolution couple of steps below your actual monitor size (if the monitor is 1080p try switching the game settings to 720p - 1280x720).
Stacking - game automatically pops a splitting menu when you are transfering goods into/out of ship cargo.
EXP is gained by doing missions, killing dominators or pirates, trading (very small amount of EXP until you start selling huge quantities of goods, and you have to be a trader in your ranger rating to actually get trade exp). Also I believe there is a way to gain EXP by doing pirate activities (extorting from transports, killing coalition military ships and rangers) when you join the pirate faction, probably requires a high pirate rating to start getting any exp.
As for repairs costing a lot - you probably shouldn't have chosen that engine and scanner as a starting bonus - it's a little to expensive for the beginning of the game, so repairs cost a bit much.
My advice - do the tutorial as it gives you some pointers. There is also a way to make some money by trading in the starting system - right after the trading bit of the tutorial (where you are asked to get medical goods to the station) you should sell you scanner - that will give you a bit of cash, and it's useless at the start of the game anyway. Then open the search menu - go to trade goods section, highlight the Tech goods and grey out everything else for now - click search, you will see that there is a lot of those goods on one planet in the system at a very good price and another planet in the system buys it at a pretty good price. If you have too little space in the
cargo - just put unneeded equipment into planetary storage for now. You should do some buying and selling of those Tech goods until the price difference gets too small to bother. After that you can continue on with the tutorial.
If you are into trading then you should try out different options in the search menu, it's pretty helpful. The best thing to trade is Luxury goods - there can be a lot of it in the galaxy and the price range is nice.
If you want to go the military way, then the best starting weapon is a Rocket launcher.
P.S. I'm not sure about in-game items names for english localization, because I play the russian version.
Is there a list of all possible ships that i can purchase (engines and so on would be nice too)?
edit : Ships = Hull
The manual doesn't include some new equipment added with the HD release though, mostly pirate faction stuff.
P.S. Actually strike that last bit, the manual does seem to have been updated, so it has all equipment descriptions, including HD stuff. It's just that some items don't have too much info on them, just hints at what they are.
I hope this helps you.
