Small question about ship comparison
Okay So I have been looking to upgrade my pirate ship and was wondering how important is armor and % of damage resistance.

Lets say:
ship 1 has 0armor but has protection from E:100% S:100% M:100%

vs

ship 2 has 2armor but has E:120% S:120% M:120%

Would 2armor bonus is better than 20 % increased damage taken?
When it is better? Does the ship needs to have 5armor to offset 20% damage increase?

ship 3 has 0armor but has protection from E:90% S:90% M:90%

vs

ship 4 has 6armor but has E:140% S:140% M:140%

When armor is better than % dmg increased?

2 armor reduces 2 damage taken. Anything over 10 damage and you're better off with the 100% resistance (or lower). Armor is a great early game stat because incoming damage is low, later you'll want some good resists to go along with it.

So 90% damage received instead of 100% is a lot better than 6 or 8armor?

Also, does pilots charisma increase the experience points I get or just money?

the game manual is located in your install dir, it is very informative has ship list and all, it also has been updated with the hd reboot

Formula:
(Damage - shell - armor) * the coefficient of the ship * attacking artifacts * defensive artifacts = final damage.

Since all artifacts and TTX ship go as coefficients their order is not important.

Calculations for the indicated ships all 50 damage units and 35% of the shield:
1) (50 * 0.65) = 32.5 = 32 (bank rounding)
2) (50 * 0.65 - 2) * 1.2 = 36.6 = 37
3) (50 * 0.65) * 0.9 = 29.25 = 29
4) (50 * 0.65 - 6) * 1.4 = 39.9 = 40

But with 10 damage:
1) (10 * 0.65) = 6.5 = 6
2) (10 * 0.65 - 2) * 1.2 = 5.4 = 5

The result: the higher one-time damage, the less effective the armor and the more efficient the coefficient.

To reiterate a bit more simply; in the beginning when your average weapon damage is 20-30, 10 armor points would be half that damage or equivalent to E/S/M 50%. Late game when the average weapon damage is 60 you'll need an armor value of 30 which is difficult, so you'll want to go with the ship with the lower %.

I believe charisma only increases the money you get from missions, but I never pay attention to the exp I get so I could be wrong.

Thanks for replies.. I did played a lot of sr2 yesterday so I figured it out. Yes charisma doesnt increase xp gains :(
But I do admit going for lower % is definately a safer option. Found 80% 85%105% +2armor 932 ship.

Also I found somewhere than ships above 1000hull makes you a lot slower. I wonder if its true..

I once found a experimeter series Dumbo ship that had 30% susceptibility to everything, too bad it only had 200 hull.

I have another question about artifacts, I'm building an energy weapons ship and I was wondering how the proportionar works. My shield generator has 36% with polarizer, so would that increase energy weapons by +18 or +18%? And from your experience, how effective is the rocketang? I'm mostly tried it on small fighters with M:50% and 30% shield and got nothing but 1's for missiles, but I haven't tested it against torpedo's yet.

My ship has A'egis, polarizer, and junior droid and it's between the proportionar for damage or the rocketang for missile tanking. I also have a proton/nozzlenator that I've been using early game that exchanges 2 artifact slots and 10% shield for +100 speed.

What's a good energy weapons combo for Bertor fighting? I usually run with 5 AV's which is good for lots of smaller ships, but not so much for slow and tanky targets. My current ship has 3 AV's and 2 Wave phasers modded for droid and weapons blocking. I haven't tried electronic cutters because I'm not sure if it affects loot drops.

Proportioner: Reduces the feeding of the protective field by half, thereby increasing the power of the energy weapon proportionately (+10%, 22.5%, 35%, 47.5%, 60% of capacity, depending on the number of energy guns, from 5 to 1).
For equipment from a black hole:
- The weapon buff is 1.5 times stronger.
- The debuff on the shield is -25% instead of -50%.

To combat dominators, a combination of 2 verticles + 3 IMHO (Proportioner + Navint + Pyaterik + complete set of myoplasma / nanobrolyte equipment) or a set of torpedoes works well, which will be worse in terms of the speed of stripping the system, but it works on medium ships + not so critical to equipment and artifacts(in fact, only a good engine and droid are needed).

Raketang, IMHO, is relevant against pirates, against dominator is enough a'egis

I used rocketang a bit, and it got destroyed before any of the other artefacts got half health (i imagine it does things a lot- vs dominators that was). What i don't understand is that proportioner doesn't seem to actuall change damage values that pop up when firing (with atomic vision which is energy, with 36% shields), while I definitely lose lots of tank.

Regarding charisma, later you'll be somewhat dependent on having subordinates and I imagine charisma helps you recruit them.

Lol apparently I didn't even use rocketang correctly, you supposedly have to activate while its in art slot.

or that seems to be for destroying your own rockets.

Yep. Activation just destroys the rockets you launched. And equipped rocketang just adds a passive rocket defence effect.
