Japanese standard of east button being confirm and south button being cancel. It's regressive as as hell, but it's been around as long as Nintendo's been doing it since the SNES days.
Except it isn't.
Where have you been the last 30 years? Super Mario Kart was one of the most creatively influential games of all time. The title screen proudly tells players to press B.
Oh, we're talking about SNES controller layout.
My bad.
It's just a very weird choice of the dev to keep the switch buttons position of the first release, instead of matching the buttons functions like most other games on the planet.
My guess is that the devs were used to test the switch version so they preferred their muscle memory for testing and avoiding having to change anything in-game, instead of everyone else's convenience.
They should have at least left an option for the users to choose the layout they prefer.
Now what worries me is that everyone is so focused on the lack of English dub or the translations complains that nobody cares about real issues like that one.
The OP didn't specify whether they were using an Xbox controller or a Nintendo controller.
But hey I know, reading subs can be a pain sometimes.
I had the proper Xbox button layout but the on screen displayed buttons were still the same.
