Anyone else having saving issues?
My gf is trying to play the game using big picture mode on our TV. Last night she lost 2 hours and today lost another 3 or 4. The second time it even erased her achievements.

Is anyone else having any issues with saves erasing or is there something more to the save system that she might be missing? Could it be a issue with Big Picture mode not working correctly with the cloud? Thanks in advance for the help.

Had the same issue. Finished the story, started to play from the beginning to gain more stuff. And when i started the game next time everything was gone... The whole Savegame!

Wow, the entire game? My gf has only been losing a few hours of progress but shes afraid to play it anymore cause of the saves disappearing.

Having the exact same issue. Losing a few hours here and there. BPM.

Is there a fix for this? Shes afraid to even continue past the first movie. Seems like a waste of money.

Do you have Steam Cloud synced for this game? I just lost something like 6 hours, because Steam inexplicably closed while I was playing. I noticed I wasn't getting any achievements for a while and when I started up Steam, I think it overwrote my local save data with the cloud data, which was significantly behind.

I had this problem too. It also seems to have been solved by turning off Steam Cloud syncing. I also have been religiously going through "Quit Game"..."Save and Quit"..."Quit to Windows" rather than just going straight to "Quit to Windows." This might not actually be necessary.

I have had a similar issue for the ps3. When I loaded my progress it went right to the beginning cut scene and it had deleted all of my progress. I still have the achievements though.

Same problem here. Every time I continue Story mode, the game is several hous behind e.g. I saved and exited on the King of the Dead level but when I continued the next day I was back to removing the curse from Theoden! So I had to redo Helms Deep, Isengard, Osgilliath, Secret Stairs, Cirith Ungol, etc.!

Anyway I carried on and redid everything and finished Story mode yesterday and then unlocked ALOT in Freeplay mode - total 50% completion. But when I saved and exited, the save file had completely disappeared! I tried to reload the game and it said there was no game to load!

However, when I went back into the game today, the save game had come back - but once again it's really far behind - back down to 29% completion :(

Completely random and infuriating save system... How hard is it to save a game? This is why PC games should have proper save systems - not this console style checkpoint autosave crap that doesn't even work.

I posted this topic some 6 months ago. I cant remember exactly what my gf did to fix the problem, i think she just left her pc on the entire time and beat it like that. Regardless, after she beat the game she never touched it again, so Unsolved, but dont need help anymore.

Dang. I came in here just now to try to solve/complain about this very issue! Just fired up the game and found I'd lost all my progress from my last session. No way am I gonna play through all that content again. Ditching the game, bummer.

The saving does work properly if you disable Steam Cloud.

Thanks for the info; I'll try that and give it another shot!

I may or may not be 11 years too late. Whoops. I'm only uploading this now cause I got the game last night on GOG and had the same issue with saving not working and my old save being ska-dooshed outta existance. I'll copy the solution I wrote on the forums there here as it should be the same process.

Open up file explorer. Go to "C:\Users\[Insert username here]\AppData\Roaming\Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment" and delete the folder named "LEGO The Lord of the Rings". The game will then make a new folder in the same location and the game should work! WARNING! THIS ACTION WILL DELETE YOUR SETTINGS AND SAVE DATA. IF YOU MUST, MAKE A BACKUP OF THE FOLDER AND PUT THE SAVE IN THE NEW ONE. THE SAVES SHOULD BE LOCATED IN THE FOLDER "savedgames" AND THERE SHOULD BE A FOLDER WITH THE NAME "slot1" OR "slot2" AND SO ON. THATS YOUR SAVE FOLDER. You can try and return the backup of the save back into the original to see if it still works. As for if it does or not I'm not sure.

As Gandalf himself once said "Keep it secret, keep it safe."

Another thing I must add, I advise turning off steam cloud for this one and keeping the save local. If it's not there then steam must have a different save location. Check the "Game data" section of this page https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Lego_The_Lord_of_the_Rings#Game_data

One of my personal favorite lego games cause of the open world and I wanna see more people play through it hence why I'm posting this. Anyway back I go to get more mythril.

Toodles! :P
