LEGO: Lord of the Rings will not load.
The game installed fine, and after trying to load it the first time and realized it did not work I looked up fixes and tried them all. Installing the latest directx did fix my problem for the first time, it allowed me to start the game once and play it fine. Now when I tried to start the game again it will no longer work and I have the same problem as I started with.

I am using Windows 7, if anyone else has this problem and found a way to fix it please let me know.

have had the same issue since buying this game during the sale for my daughter. I have trawlled the forums for an answer and not got very far. I have reinstalled the game and DirectX. I have also set it as proirity in the GPU settings as this is runnig on a new laptop. However I have now got the game to statr by navigating to the install directory and setting it to run as administrator. Now the game will start so now I can hand it over to my eager daughter for some pay testing.

The file path for the directory is, (C)> Program Files(x86)> Steam> steamapps> common> Lego Lord of the Rings> Right click the LEGOLOTR icon and go to Properties then Compatability Tab. From there check the Run as Administrator box. I hope this works for you as well.

I had the same problem until I downloaded the following DirectX-DLLs and saved them in the "../Steam/steamapps/common/Lego Lord of the Rings/" directory

- D3DX9_41.dll
- XAPOFX1_3.dll
- xinput1_3.dll

Now the game starts correctly but there is still no sound ?!

This is a very basic question, but how do i reinstall DirectX? I downloaded the Microsoft Direct X web installer from here (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35) and ran the file, but it immediately says I have the latest version.

The crash I'm getting is before the Title screen. I've tried the suggestion above (re. the Compatibility tab) and that unfortunately did not fix my issue.

I've verified the integrity of the cache as well as re-downloaded/installed it several times, with no luck.

The only thing I can put my finger on is that I don't recall seeing the Direct X install occur when first booting up the game. It very easily could have, I just didn't see it.

Oddly enough, I did have it successfully boot up once or twice, but only after playing other games. However, that work-around has failed me for the last several days, so I've given up trying that.

Thanks for any suggestions/help!

Yes had this problem for a day and think i have fixed it. Add the dll files as stated a few times above although i only needed 2 of them myself. Make sure your sound driver is up to date I had to go to dell and load the latest one for my pc as it always said I had the latest one on my pc hardware manager. Then load directx by typing in Directx patch on a google search. it was the first or second search found, directx user runtime or something from microsoft you dont have to delete the directx you have but this adds something that normally happens the first time you play a game. restart and hey presto it worked. It was not working on my laptop and now does.

I had jsut bought this today from the sale, first boot did not work, im trying a steam hotfix that was under the beta options to see if that fixes it. I will come back to tell you if it does. EDIT; does not. trying bugme's idea EDIT: Guess ill try deleting directX Edit: I found a fix that works for me.

1. Navigate to C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment\LEGO The Lord of the Rings

2. Open pcconfig.txt in WordPad -It's important to use WordPad so that you can see line-breaks properly.

3. Edit the horizontal & vertical vertical for your native screen resolution. Mine defaulted to 720p values.

FileVersion 6
ScreenWidth 1920
ScreenHeight 1080
WindowWidth 1920
WindowHeight 1080

4. Save.

5. Launch from Steam. No reboot should be required.

tried adding the .dlls, also tried updating directX.
Can't find pcconfig.txt or the folder mentioned, but tried to copying it from the LEGO HP 2 folder and created the folders manually. Then changed the lines Lokidafool posted. Surprisingly it didn't work.
Edit: Also tried stuff like setting sound quality to 24 bit/48kHz. Doesn't change anything. Other LEGO Games always worked proper btw.
Edit2: Forget about it, now it works. Forgot restarting.

I had the same problem and was able to resolve it by manually installing directx 9. I found a version of direcxt9 that is compatible with Windows 8 at the below URL:

My problem was I had installed LEGO LOTR on another computer, so when I installed it on my laptop, it didn't go through the first time install were Steam installs DirectX files. The easy solution install another LEGO game from steam, or somehow trick steam into thinking first time install. Tried all the .dll, directx updates, verify files, only this worked. Issue is with x64 for me.
