System lockups while playing this
Um, yes, seems like this game is managing to crash my computer. Properly crash it, not just "appname.exe has stopped working".
I've checked the temperatures, drivers and hardware already, all fine. Tried running the game with various gfx settings, no difference. Framerate is smooth.
Event viewer puts up an error in application log, with faulting app & module name being /...path/LEGOlotr.exe, with exception 0xc0000005, offset 0x00208217, process id 0xdb8.
So, er, yeah. Wondering if anyone else has system crashes with this game.

maybe its some virus scanner or other tool that interfere with the game
try running it with nothing else in the background

Im having the same exact problem.... as well as it freezing just after the first level... i had a tech look over my computer, he updated drivers and everything and its still doing it.... by any chance @john5321 did you buy your downloaded game through GameStop? I am wondering if there is a glitch between the GameStop app and the Steam acount

do we know if anyone from Steam is actually reading these comments? it would be nice to have their opinion on all of this....

Hi.. I tried a few different things.. I changed all the video settings, removed the game pad.. I even got my hands on the retail version of the game. i installed it ant it still doeant it still doesnt work on my system.. I emailed steam support for a refund .. I got 1 reply so far but their solution did not help.. the locks up at the begining of Mount Doom and I am unable to play the game.. The lego people dont seems to have any fixes or updates for the game.. so i guess we are screwed.. I am using Windows 7 64 bit 16 gigs ram.. i even tried to create a new user account on my sytem that did not load as many drivers but it still locks up

john5321 I get the same, and I too am running Win7 with 16GB of RAM. Oddly, my previous PC was an old Core 2 Duo with 2GB of RAM and that worked. This is the demo I should add, this crash on load is putting me off buying the full game till I know a fix is available, or a patch. If you run the exe as Admin, it will spit out a txt file error report, complaining about not enough memory. I assume the same is true in Steam. Emailed TT Games and no reply, yet.

I tried a few different ways to run the game.. as admin, changed the display, I even created aanother screen name with less things running and still no luck.. I installed it on my other pc running XP and it works with out a problem.. so maybe it is a Win 7 problem.. i would rather have run it on my Win 7 machine because it has a better graphics card, memory, etc .. oh well ..

I too have tried these solutions for running the retail version of Lego LOTR but to no avail. My game will run but then pauses for long periods in the middle of gameplay for no apparent reason. The game will eventually resume but it makes the game unplayable. I have emailed support@wbgames.com and await a reply. I am running a Core i7, 16GB ram, ATI 5770.

The solution for me was:
1) I uninstalled the drivers to my Microsoft gamepad, and then reinstalled from the driver CD (initially I allowed Windows to load a driver automatically without using the driver disc at all). After a reboot this solved my freezing/pausing problem! Yay! 2) I had another problem with the game suddenly minimizing which was caused by a process associated with PlayOn called MyMediaMall which when Stopped solved that problem.
