How do I put this into windowed mode?

and there's a pcconfig.txt. I opened it and there are options in there called...

WindowWidth 1920
WindowHeight 1080
WindowLeft -1
WindowTop -1

I don't see any option for switching between windowed or fullscreen but since these are there. I could almost assume it's a command line you put into this config file. I have no idea what the command is though :-\

So after spending a little time searching, I have found a way to do it. Below is a step by step way to make it work.


Getting Lego Lord of the Rings (PC) to run in Window Mode
1) Load WinRar (if you don’t have it already)

2) Load DxWnd

3) Open the DXWnd-ms.rar file you just downloaded and drag the “DXWnd” folder to your desktop
4) Open the “DXWnd” folder and double click on the “dxwnd” application file. Which should open up a little window on your screen.
5) Currently there’s a link for a different game, Right Click on the link and Delete it.
6) Right Click and do the Add option (at this point you will have to browse for the Game exe file) Here is where mine was located.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\LEGO Lord of the Rings\LEGOLOTR.exe

Now it’s not the easiest way, but it does work.

I know this is an old post but it just saved me from not playing a lot of games. Very useful application. I skip almost every game if I can't play windowed mode, and now this application makes it possible for any game. No one else said how well it works so I just thought i would.

I just managed to get it working with LOTR, should be similar I imagine, just modify, then in both path and launch put the same .exe of the game, also I checked the box acquire admin caps, tho Im not sure it helped, then on the "Video" tab, under screen resolution choose Native, and baam! it worked, I needed it so my night filter works and I can sleep, hope this helps :)

@Phantom Lord I just downloaded "v2_05_02_build.rar" both from SourceForge and MajorGeeks and they are the same. Checked the hash, files are 100% identical.

Right click on "Raw" -> save as and then import it in DxWnd. Just make sure to edit the exe path accordingly.

I just installed and started this game for the first time today. I can confirm that you can play this game in windowed mode if you use the program called DxWnd. As one guy named Phantom Lord stated, the DxWnd game profile you create for Lego The Hobbit won't work unless you put a check next to the box that says 'Acquire admin caps'.

If you want to know my setup, I will explain what it is below.


First of all, I have a 1920x1080 screen laptop, but I have it set to 1366x768 as that is my preferred resolution. I play just about every game I own in windowed 1280x720, and I usually use a program to shift my window up off screen to hide the title bar. The end result looks like a window with four borders (all the same size) and no title bar. The window is perfectly centered (from left to right) and is flush against my bottom task bar (I can still see the entire task bar) and the top of screen.


The first thing that I did was go to Lego The Hobbit's 'pcconfig' file to change the resolution. I was able to find the file here:
C:\Users\Brian\AppData\Roaming\Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment\LEGO The Hobbit\pcconfig.txt
Then I just changed six of the lines to:
ScreenWidth 1280
ScreenHeight 720
WindowWidth 1280
WindowHeight 720
WindowLeft 0
WindowTop 0


My version of DxWnd is 2.04.77. It shouldn't matter what version you are using. Mine is fairly recent, within a year or two.

On the top menu of DxWnd, I clicked on Edit and then Add. This will create a profile for whichever game you want to modify. It will be a brand new file and you then only need to make very few changes to it to get this Lego The Hobbit game to be windowed. The following are the only changes that I made.

In the 'Main' tab:

I named it Lego The Hobbit.
I set both the Path and Launch to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\LEGO - The Hobbit\LEGOHobbit.exe
I put a checkmark next to 'Run in Window'.
I put a checkmark next to 'Acquire admin caps'.
I personally have the Window initial position & size set to X = 43, Y = 0, W = 1280, and H = 720.
And a checkmark next to 'X, Y coordinates' (as opposed to Desktop Center, Desktop Work Area, or Desktop).

In the 'Video' tab:

I put a checkmark next to 'Thin Frame'.
I unchecked 'Emulate Win Maximize'.
I put a checkmark next to 'Free' under Window Size & Position. This allows me to shift the window up off screen to hide the task bar.


That's it. Pretty simple and easy. And it works. No need to change other settings in the other tabs


UPDATE: I forgot. After you are done, go to the top menu in DxWnd and click on File and then Save. Otherwise, it won't save your game profile you just created.


PS - I meant to post in Lego The Hobbit and not Lego Lord of the Rings, but it should work either way.

You are a ROCK STAR! Tried the other solutions, but could only get them to work with Lego Harry Potter, not Hobbit. Used your settings, and bam, worked first time.

For anyone using this git file, you can Save As, name it, then drag the file you created on top of the DXWND window, and it copies perfectly. Very happy. I spent way too much time messing with this. Wanted to be able to use 2nd monitor for looking up stuff I was missing, and now I can. Thanks!
