Issues with ledge jumping
So I've been playing through with the 360 controller, and I've had troubles with those little thin brown ledges, like the ones leading to the cave in the lake outside of bree, and the ones in the dead marshes. When I jump at them (the thin little balance ledges) my character seems to be pushed away, I can rarely land on them, and when I do it usually pushes me off regardless. Is this some kind of bug? I've used multiple characters (legolas, gandalf, frodo, ect) and yeah.. just cannot land on those blocks.

Note* I can do the straight ahead ones, and even the square pillars lined up, it's when the balance beams are turned side ways and are in rows, I cannot jump from one to the next (like in the lake outside of bree)

Try to use Legolas instead. For example, I've managed to jump straight to the opening of the cave outside of Bree.

Legolas is best for this.

Thanks for the comments, I ended up using who ever I had at the time (I think aragon) with the mithril jump boots, mostly had to brute force my way onto the first platform and then wildly throw myself towards the area I wanted to get to and bybass the other platforms lol. I had to do this for a total of three platform things, one in the swamp, one outside bree, and the tower platform one in mordor.

I've had similar issues as well. Jumping with elf characters definitely helps, but with those specific jumping puzzles, jumping towards the next platform if you're on a rail is the best option. Also try to align the screen with the next rail if you can, so you only need to press the 'W' key to jump forward onto the next platform.

As for the square pillars, I missed my jumps from pillars that are at the corners - so instead of jumping onto the corner pillar, I just jumped diagonally, skipping a pillar altogether. With elf characters of course.

Yes, it's a pain. There seem to be invisible walls if you don't hit it just right. Try wiggling to the character's left or right prior to jumping. If you hit a wall on the right, scoot left a bit, and vice versa.

with the cave outside of bree, you can actually walk along the side of the lake next the cave on the right despite it lookng like there's water there by hugging the wall, and jump from ther instead of the platforms. It's a lot easier. (I feel like i described that poorly, but hopefully someone will figure it out)

I couldn't do the jumping so I went up the steps on the side of the mound and jumped down to the door

Yes it's a pain indeed, i just tried multiple times and basically forced my elf character through the way.

One of the things I've noticed when jumping from one small platform to another, is that you can push toward the platform you're going to jump to, and you won't fall off of the one you are currently on. Your character will stop and look like he's trying to maintain balance. I found this to be VERY useful. Once I discovered this, jumping wasn't so bad anymore. I push toward where I want to jump and hold it until my character is stopped at the very edge of the platform, then jump. The way I was doing it before (trying to keep from falling off of the platform I am on), I would never make the jump.

I think the worst spot I'm trying to deal with is climbing up Helm's Deep for a mithril block. My character always over jumps it and falls down, and I have to climb it all over again.

I know I'm late, but dude same here also the Isengard tower sucks. Not to mention some water parts which you need to double jump and attack to not fall off to water... The jumping is totally awful.

I guess u all have issues with ledge-jumping for a mithril block near the Orodruin (west from Barad-dur). Actually not even elf would help you. Cause 2 particular edges standing on 'road' turns are bugged. Even if u are jumping from 'edge-balancing' mode. But I found the SOLUTION: do not jump straight to that platforms: ignore 3rd and 5th! Jump diagonally to the next one after it. That means you need to jump from 2nd planform to 4th and from 4th to 6th. (using 'edge-balancing' on CORNER of each platform). That was the only way I made it after 50 min of trying.

You saved my sanity, and then I got Aragorn over only to find he can't break the cubes in there yet. I guess I need Narzil (or whatever his sword was named)
