Crash after first encounter with the rider
I am not very computer savvy so I am not sure how to trouble shoot crashes. The game closes after I try to move on from the first encounter with the riders after the hobits get on the ferry to escape. What do I do?

I get this too, my research online shows that the game isn't very well optimised for PC. Apparently, you use to be able to right click on the game title on steam, go into properties and beta files and select a 'hotfix qa' beta version that stopped the game crashing. Unfortunately, that option is no longer there on the drop down and so I think this may be a game breaking bug for us :(

I ran into the same issue and I tried using the other beta file that was available but no luck. It won't let me any further either. I tried going the other direction back into Hobbiton (very pretty at night btw) but it still didn't change the fact that it crashed immediately after passing the bell on the other side of the river on the way to Bree.

Since I only paid $5 for the game with the sale going on right now, it isn't worth the time or headache in trying to figure out a fix and I am requesting a refund. If you are able to get it to work, please let me know!

Hi, yes I just got it working again. I traveled via the map back to hobbiton and then ran back to the ferry. I managed to leave the other 3 hobbits behind and cross the ferry on my own and then ran rght through to Bree without a crash. Hope it works for you too!

Thank you! that did the trick for me!
What a poor job of the people converting the game to pc though...

pastoolio+ found a solution that worked for me, you need to set the compatibility options of the game program in Windows to Windows 7. See this thread: https://steamcommunity.com/app/214510/discussions/0/1733258352679516237/

I picked up a bunch of LEGO games during the summer sales and overall a lot of fun but there have been some odd decisions on their parts with some of their titles and major bugs.

I uninstalled and then reinstalled and it seemed to work after that.
Update your game drives.

easiest way to fix (and only one that worked for me) was running the .exe file on compatibility mode for windows 7.
With the game open in your library, click the settings thing, properties, local files, browse local files, then it should take you to a folder in your hard drive.
right click on the .exe file, click properties, then go compatibility, allow, then set it to windows 7.
(MAKE SURE TO CLICK APPLY!!)
hope this helps, if the instructions dont make sense just reply to my comment
