two controllers

Hi I am trying to play a two player game and can't get both controllers working at the same time. Is it possible that you can only play with one controller and must use keyboard mouse for second player? Or am I doing something wrong here?

I am interested in this because I just ordered a second controller...

I finally got it working. I set up both controllers in Steam's controller options, then in the actual game controller options.
