Confused by ladder...

Tutorial.

Found a ladder at an expedition site - the one with the locked gate and control panel inside.

I'm assuming I need to use the ladder to get over the gate somehow, but I have no idea how to do that. I try clicking on the ladder but nothing comes up to place.

What am I doing wrong?

when you click on the gate it will show you the item needed to open it. the ladder has a spot you need to find to place it

When you find the spot where you need to place the ladder you get what looks like two options, a hand or the ladder. You need to click on the hand to place the ladder, I was thinking the hand was for trying to climb without the ladder, so kept clicking on the ladder and got frustrated because it didn't work.

Ok I found a spot to place the ladder, it has been placed against a scaffolding but still the guy won't/can't climb the ladder.. how do I make the guy climb the ladder? :)

If you place the cursor over the ladder it should change to an up/down arrow and then click on it. It is the same for climbing scaffolding and ventilation shafts.
