REMOTE PLAY TOGETHER FAQ AND TROUBLESHOOTING
What is Remote Play Together?

Remote Play Together is a feature in Steam that enables local multiplayer games to be played online with friends. One player (the host) runs the game on their computer, and the video and audio are streamed to the remote players, appearing as if they were running the game themselves. The remote player's inputs are then sent back to the host's game, allowing everyone to play together. Find out more here.

How do I start Remote Play Together?

The host player should launch the game and open their friends list in the Steam overlay (Shift+Tab). There is a Remote Play Together shortcut button on the main menu of Dungeon Golf to open the friends overlay directly. From here you can start a new Remote Play Together session and invite your friends to join remotely. Click Invite Anyone To Play to start a new session, then invite multiple friends at once. Or right-click a friend and select Remote Play Together to start a new session and invite them all in one go.

Can remote players control my computer / Steam / other programs?

No, don't worry. Regardless of what devices a remote player is using, their inputs are only ever sent to the host's game, not to Steam or any other programs. Steam also only shows remote players the game they were invited to join; if any other program has focus (including Steam itself) the remote player won't be able to see it. Remote players can only see and control the game they were invited to play.

Who can I Remote Play Together with?

You can directly invite people on your friends list or create an invite link to allow anyone to join. See the "How do I start Remote Play Together?" section for details.

Does everyone need to own the game?

No - sharing is caring! Only the host needs to own the game, they can then invite remote players - even those who don't own the game themselves. We think Remote Play Together is a great way to share the game with friends and try it out.

Are gamepads required for Remote Play Together?

No, the host can optionally enable mouse and/or keyboard control for each remote player individually. If a remote player has a gamepad connected, Steam will automatically detect that as well. The host and all remote players will be able to control the game at all times - it's up to you whether to be honourable and respect the turn order, or sow a little mischief by sending inputs on someone else's turn!

How many people can join a Remote Play Together session?

Dungeon Golf is designed to support up to 4 players. Additional players can still join the game to spectate, and since everyone controls the game at all times they can even send inputs, they just won't have their own character. Tag-team golf, anyone?

Will there be traditional online multiplayer?

Yes, we are planning to add online multiplayer in addition to the existing local multiplayer and Remote Play Together.

REMOTE PLAY TOGETHER - TROUBLESHOOTING

I see a "Please hold... Input is temporarily disabled while the host is busy" screen and cannot see the game.

Remote players will see this message when the host's game doesn't have focus, either because they've opened the Steam overlay or are in another program. When they return to the game this screen will disappear and you'll be able to see and play the game together again.

I get a warning that a player has no input devices.

If a remote player has no gamepad connected to their computer, by default they won't be able to control the game. The host will need to specifically enable mouse and/or keyboard for that player before their inputs for those devices will be shared and they'll be able to play the game.

Invites for Remote Play Together aren't being sent / cannot be accepted / nothing happens.

Sometimes this happens when something has gone wrong in the Steam backend. Please restart Steam and try again, this usually clears the problem. Go to Steam → Exit, wait for Steam to close, reopen it, and try again.

The game disappeared instantly.

This is what happens for remote players when the host closes the game, ends the Remote Play Together session, or kicks a player. If you weren't expecting this, try asking the host to invite you again, you may have temporarily lost connection.

My game closed when I accepted a Remote Play Together invite.

Steam only allows one instance of a game to be running at a time. For Remote Play Together, only the host needs to be running the actual game, remote players just need to accept the invite.

We are recieving the "Network Error"-Error after starting the game ("Play golf") in multiplayer. Any solution for that? First round was fine, but now we get that error. Tried different Hosts and several restarts of the game.

Sorry about this - we are looking in to it as a priority. What we’ve seen usually it clears up if all player completely restart the game, though obviously that’s not ideal.
