Has anyone managed to get this to work under Wine? I bought the trilogy today, but can't get it to run past the intro video (which is really choppy) then it crashes.

WineHQ gives it a platinum rating, but that can't be right... Anyone got it working?

Obviously I would rather play this natively on Linux, but it looks so good that I can't wait for a port.

EDIT: I got it running (changing the wine version), but cutscenes are really choppy... I could play it without the cutscenes, but this game looks great and wouldn't want to lose out. Might have to wait for a port that never comes :(

Works without major problems for me under wine. Would prefer a native version too which may fix the problem where the game freezes for up to 1 min when entering a new area. Wine version 1.7.16, win32 prefix, nvidia card.

Do you use any special config or dlls? Using the same wine version, prefix and nvidia card and cutscenes are unplayable for me.

No dll overrides, clean prefix, installed steam, turned off steam overlays (since that leads to crashes in some games), set glsl to enabled, direct draw=opengl, ram=the amount your card has, offscreen=pbuffer. I use playonlinux to handle my wineprefixes but that shouldn't change anything.

Got it working! Chaning the glsl/opengl/RAM/pbuffer settings on playonlinux did the trick. Thanks a lot :). I never have to do this kind of stuff anymore, it reminds my of how things were a year or more ago and I hate having to return to using wine again. Is the config for the two sequels the same? I bought the trilogy.

For any future users, this is using (K)Ubuntu 13.10, latest Nvidia drivers (x-org-edgers) and latest version of wine.

To the devs:

This shows why native Linux ports are needed. Although Linux is a great system in which users can find workarounds like this, it is far from ideal and future users of SteamOS most likely won't have the knowlege to do this (nor should they). This process wasn't without pain at all. Setting up Steam through Wine (something Linux users hardly have to do anymore with all the great games on the OS now) was a huge headache, with all the installations of my native Linux games being deleted by the Windows Steam, forcing me to have to download my entire library again and losing many of my saves. Please bring great games like this one to Linux!

Should be the same config, can probably tell you more after I finished this one and tried the next steam version one.
As long as workarounds are available its at least an option to work with wine, but what I find far more annoying is the 1min lag when changing areas. It takes a lot of fun out of the gameplay. And there is no way to mitigate or even lessen that problem.
Another problem of steam with wine is that if you have the overlay active (seeing steam achievement etc) it may crash your game on keyboard input.
So I second the "Please give us native games for Linux" put I guess for Deponia all still hinges on visionaire to support it. :-(

I don't seem to have the 1 min lag issue. Maybe updating your nvidia drivers might help? Also playing full screen with HD video off (dunno if that would make any difference though).

Apparantly they're still working on the Linux visionaire:

"We're working on it, but it wasn't finished the time we scheduled releasing. The Mac-editor has priority. The player is working, but the distribution is a problem, for there are no real standard, that are easy to use."

Seems to be more apparent after a while of playing or maybe changing the area more often. With "Chaos on Deponia" it is even worse for me. My drivers are pretty much up to date, HD videos are off (though on area change there is no cutscene so meh)

About visionaire: Where did you get that info? Can't find it on their forum.

I just finished Deponia and about to start Chaos on Deponia.Fingers crossed...

There were parts where there was maybe a 20 second lag, but it was very rare. I'm using bumblebee (running an optimus card) with the xorg-edgers ppa (can't remember the model of the card, but i think it's GT 540m). All I can suggest is maybe updating to the edgers repository (if you haven't already), saw a noticable performance increase with a lot games after doing that.
