What are developer tools and how do i activate them

I've been stuck trying to open the ancient door, i looked at the main discussion where a guy said to place 5 crates from a quest at the baziers but it didnt work so i hoped the developer tools would bring up some type of command prompt like in Portal just to find a way to open the door without having to focus on the game itself to not die at the next boss since for now thats been a deadline to me and my group... Im writing this because i saw develop[er tools: F4 in controls, tried pressing it in settings, main menu and in singleplayer game but nothing happened

Dev mode is restricted to the experimental version specifically, not the base game (f3 is the menu for that). I can't imagine why you'd think opening the door vs focusing on the game is conflicting- the door is its own puzzle with a reward that is run specific.

Idk I'd want the free camera just for screenshots or to get a thumbnail if I ever record the game, but it'd also be nice to use the console if you were just wanting to see how things spawned or sum, I don't really see it as cheating if you're learning the game first time around, its called Dev tools, not cheat codes for a reason

Free cam is included within the experimental version, activated with "."
You can also spawn items in (enemies in 0.8) using the same console, as well as modify expertise. All is in the package.

I feel like the free cam should be in the base game for content but that might just be me, idk who'd want to watch cave crawlers content but I am thinking about it, if anyone wants to see it just give the comment awards or sum idk

You can always play experimental as is, same as base game rn, just with the tools. Or if you feel further inclined, make a suggestion in the official discord (we love new people)
