(I have double wood chopping skill - it gives 8 wood, without it - 4 wood in chopping).
- Each fruit tree seed costs 400 coins. When chopped down, it gives 8 wood.
- 1 wood costs 20 coins in Ryis's shop. 8 wood * 20 coins = 160 coins to buy the same amount wood from Ryis's shop.
So when you chop down a fruit tree, you lose 400 - 160 = 240 coins.
or without Double chopping skill (4 wood per tree), you lose 400 - 80 = 320 coins.
Plus, there are many trees in Mistria outside your farm that grow back the next day after chopping and give you 8 FREE wood each.
I did an experiment and chopped down every tree in Mistria outside my farm in one day. The result was 543 free wood and 52 hardwood:

How often do town trees respawn? I mean I could check in a bit myself. If it's daily or even weekly that's a much better way.
EDIT: I see you said that earlier! Sorry I missed it.
8(4) wood = 160(80) coins.
As you remember, a fruit tree seed costs 400 coins, and if you chopped it down for 8(4) wood, you need spend 400 coins next year again to buy the fruit tree seed.
So If you instead buying from Ruis chop down 10 your fruit tree - then your money loss will be:
240 *10 = 2400 coins (with double chopping skill) or
320 * 10 = 3200 coins (without double chopping skill)
Not only did you lose money, but the main loss in your situation is time, as well as the missed harvests from your fruit trees (9 days required for the trees to grow, and in that time, your trees could have provided three harvests).
