Someone on Reddit mentioned they had this problem and someone responded that Moths are more likely to appear after 8PM and 3 people said they tried the mines after 8PM and nearly immediately found the Lantern Moth on the 11th Floor. Unsure of how accurate this is as I haven't tested my self but hopefully this helps.

I am however going to go try this right now and see if it works the same for me since it seems you're not the only one having this issue.

Just wanted to update: I went and tried this method, and had success. I attempted at 11AM, 2PM, and then 8PM. Did not find on the 11AM and 2PM runs but after going in to floor 10 immediately as 8PM hit, and making my way down to floor 11 I found one floating around nearly immediately. So I feel you might have luck with this method.
Moths only spawn after dark, so try after 8pm.

It does seem rather odd that moths care so much about the time of day in a place that doesn't get natural light

That Reddit link is just a myth. No concrete evidence shows that Lantern Moth spawns frequently on Night. Daytime spawn is totally possible, and I only seen 3 Floor layout that has it. (Which the 3rd one I do not have SS)

It is not known whether the Save Seed influence the spawning. (PS: I'm already exhausted from my current run and taking a major break) But it is possible to play super well, but not meeting any single Moth the whole day. Even with the Myth and same Floor layout.
So it is total RNG. The screenshot below is done on another reload.

Because Lantern Moth doesn't.

Hey thanks for this! I definitely jumped to a conclusion on this one out of luck and convenience that the one test I did happened to follow suit with what the others were saying.

I attempted mine runs both before and after 8PM and out of 7 each on varying floors. In attempts Before 8PM I found 3 and attempts after 8PM I found 3 as well so time definitely isn't a factor with a 43% success rate overall, and successes equal between the two timeframes. Hopefully OP sticks with it and has better luck.

For OP:
I'd mark PichuYang as the correct answer for this. RNG just happened to not be in your favour. Pay extra close attention and look around the Wall Lamps and Braziers on the first 20 floors and you'll find one eventually.
I found 3 on my initial runs of the mines and donated and sold them all. Now that I need one to progress I haven't seen any. I have done about 20 additional mine runs and I'm at the point that I'll probably just stop playing Fields of Mistria. I don't have tons of free time for gaming and when I don't I don't want to spend it grinding a repetitive task for seemingly no reason. I'm also not confident if I find one on my next run that the game won't have more random items I need to be saving for future unlocks that I'm selling.

I wandered around the mine for hours searching for the Lantern Moth. I entered the mine as soon as morning came and searched until midnight, but it didn’t appear.

Could it only appear after a certain date? I'm currently on Spring 17.

No. As I said, they only spawn at specific spots with low dice roll.

you need to go to the mines after 8pm, that's when they start spawning.

Please read the post #5, do not confuse Lantern Moth with Fuzzy Moth. Unless you have evidence from data mining, all you read from a particular reddit post is entirely a rumour.

Please go to the mines after 8pm to get the Lantern Moth.

Devs please do something about the lantern moth spawn rate, or change the bug needed for the water tablet to something else.

I have been trying for two seasons...I am at the point now where I spend all day every day in the mines. I have tried starting at level 5 and mining down through the levels; I have tried using the elevator to bounce repeatedly between level 5-10-15; I have tried leaving and re-entering the mines at 8 PM (I am always there past 8 PM anyway). I have not seen a single lantern moth since the one I donated to the museum.

I love this game but I am so close to quitting because I feel like I am wasting play time just trying to get past this one thing. I want to be actually playing the game but all I can do is mine.

I literally just did this and it worked for me! Thank you so much, I was looking for that bugger for a while...
